I hope Harris runs as a "Retired Brigadier General of the United States Army" rather than as a "cattle farmer."

"I know how to fight, because I have fought!"

"I know how to lead, because I have led American soldiers!"

"I know how to defend and strengthen democracy, because I have defended democracy around the globe!"

"I know how to stand up and fight for the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES, because that is what I've dedicated my life to!"

etc.

Hurray on the elections! As for the oil, all Iran has to do is threaten to do something and no insurance carriers will let anyone sail through the strait of Hormuz, so the Trump/Netanyahu war calculations are screwed up, surprise to no one!

I've gotten numerous texts pleading for donations for the Democratic primary in Georgia that are NOT Harris. Love that the Dems feel unable to rally around the guy who actually has a CHANCE come November.

If Donald Trump endorses the Republican, will MTG endorse his opponent, the former brigadier general? He wouldn't be stupid to say a kind word or two about former Rep. Greene's recent remarks.

Wookiee Monster's avatar

I wouldn’t count on Greene’s district flipping. It’s still a heavily Republican district and the republican vote was split 12 different ways. Now Shawn Harris has to get 50+ in a one-on-one race in order to win.

I live in NH. Despite having all Dem federal reps and senators, this state is chock full of MAGA dipshits and, just as bad, these utterly annoying derps known as “free staters.” Our political culture is totally embarrassing.

The last election was bad here…everything swung way back to the right even though Harris won. This state house election is a promising sign. Trump is widely hated here, especially after they tried to open an ICE warehouse in the state (they failed after massive pushback and exposing that the governor lied about her knowledge of it).

Dems like myself are hoping we beat the shit out of MAGA here, and take back the legislature, executive council and governorship, and keep our federal dems.

PuraVida's avatar

Tell me again why it would be a tragedy to elect an Army brigadier general to Congress.

swmnguy's avatar

Because it might raise the collective IQ in both the Army and Congress and the founders never considered that possibility?

You may have heard this already, but James Fishback's dumb racist campaign for governor got him banned from every Waffle House ever.

Also he was accused of an inappropriate relationship with a minor.

swmnguy's avatar

I've been to a few Waffle Houses, even though I live far enough north of the "Hon Line" the nearest Waffle House is 368 miles away, in St. Joseph, MO.

How on Earth does one get kicked out of Waffle House? Asking not for a friend, but for many of the people I've encountered in Waffle House. Sticky people, sure; but everything at Waffle House is sticky; that can't be the issue.

Their burgers are actually okay. Back when I was eating meat, I ate there a few times.

Until six months ago, I lived in Bobbi Boudman’s district for ten years. She lost a couple of times in previous elections, but I always voted for her. A solid citizen and liberal in outlook. The guy she replaced, Glenn Cordelli, was on the NH House education committee, might have been the Chair. I can’t recall for sure. His whole shtick was ratfucking public education. Really pushed hard for taxpayer supported vouchers for private schools/ religious schools at the expense of public school budgets. Denied being in a member of the NH Free Stater wing nut organization, but was definitely a fellow traveler, whom they strongly supported. Glad to know he fucked off to TX. I’m sure he’ll be very happy there. These asshole Free Staters have been slowly infiltrating local and state government in NH for quite a while, to NH’s detriment. I hope the tide is turning against them.

Dok mentioned Edie DesMarais. I had the privilege of knowing her and her husband. They were neighbors a short walk away from me until they moved into a local retirement community. We used to chat when Edie and Paul were walking their dog through my neighborhood. Both very active in community service and just good people.

Northern NH is such a beautiful place, but the state politics are bizarre. It's really too bad, but NH has some hope of restoring normalcy I hope.

they are incredibly fucked up...free staters rule the legislature. hmmnn, continue to cut the business tax that shifts the burden onto local govts...what could possibly go wrong?

Just WHAT THIS COMMITTEE HEARING IS CALLED promises it is going to be terrible

WATCH LIVE: Senate panel examines birthright citizenship rights

The Senate Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution's title is

"Birthright citizenship rights FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS AND TOURISTS"

So one more time before people even dive in I want to point people again toward Dr. Patton's column today which not only addresses propaganda around the current Mideast War in the era of AI and tweaked algorithm, but which also addresses the topicof narrative and propaganda more generally which Confederate Republicans have been waging on the truth generally and on U.S. citizens' minds in particular (which is why some of us have been running in circles screeching things like "THIS WILL BE A PROPAGANDA WAR, NOT A POLICY WAR" since, oh, 2016 or so)

As a bonus I'm going to offer everyone a panel from the beginning of this 2nd iteration of the Confederate Republican regime, earlier this year, with Constitutional scholar & Justice Correspondent for the Nation Elie Mystal, Emmy-nominated former White House Correspondent April Ryan, and pastor and Make It Plain columnist Mark Thompson

(remember that particular executive order was the very first thing Donald signed -- was anyone else asking themselves "Why would he start there?")
