I may have missed it, but have any of the other Dems who voted for the CR been interviewed, and held to account? From what I've read, they are on the same tip as Schumer: Trumusk could do more damage with a shut down then the bill will do. That's a nifty spin in lieu of saying "I kind of dig what those guys are doing!" I hope they are right. But there may not be a lot of these chances to slam the door on the fascists. Anyway, as Trump says, "We'll see what happens." Weirder, Shaheen and Peters voted for the bill, and they are retiring (!?). Way to go out heroes, guys.

The money shot:

One big mistake Democrats have been making over the last few years is continually just writing various cohorts of people off, to the point where eventually there will be no one left. Going into Republican districts, talking to voters, and making their case in person is the absolute best thing they can do right now to prepare for 2026 and beyond.

I wish Walz would stop blaming himself for this mess by losing in November. HE didn't lose. The voters who failed to turn out lost. And self-blame gets us nowhere. I love Governor Walz and I hope he continues to take a public role--a NATIONAL public role--in combatting MAGA.

What are we going to do? Are we going to keep doing what I'm doing now, posting "Oh my god, did you see what they just did?!" stuff and then going back to our white suburban lives? I want to resist in a more meaningful way, and I think standing on the road holding a protest sign, like I did in Waitsfield, VT two weeks ago when Vance came to ski, is not the answer. Voting is not the answer. What is the alternative to violence? Because I'm not seeing one. This cannot go on.

Who can I write to and beg them to do a town hall in my district?

No-Show LaLota (NY-01) has been patting himself on the back for holding bogus tele-town halls that let him control the microphone and avoid actual feedback from constituents, as well as counting every in-person event he shows up to that isn't a straight-up fundraiser as a town hall.

I never heard of Tim Walz before Ms Harris picked him to be her vice president candidate but he has sure grown on me since. Calling Republicans "weird" was such a perfect response. Doing these Town Halls where the GOP won't, this is how to fight back.

It’s interesting to see people jumping in and aggressively defending Schumer and the CR. In the old Wonkeverse you could see how long somebody had been a member, old comments etc.; now you can’t (or I can’t figure out how). But I wonder if some of those folk are newly here just to proselytize. Not saying people aren’t allowed their own opinion, but curious about the rationales.

Sorry to be pedantic, and I’m sure it’s been mentioned already, but I gotta say I think that’s a kid not a lamb 😘

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you see an animal and you don’t loudly say its name at it, then the animal will never know what it is. So you have to say “lamb!” And this is why you guys should have voted for Walz. Well, plus he’s not a Nazi. But mostly the animals thing.

Chuck Schumer is a hero. Had the government shut down Trump would have ridden the shutdown as long as he could, and we may have never had a functioning democracy again. You didn't hear a word from Trump urging budget passage. A shutdown would have given him and Musk all the chainsaw fuel they needed to gut the government completely. It was a setup that Schumer saw coming, and he headed it off for now. People don't realize it yet, but it hopefully will come clear in the future.

“Congratulations to Chuck Schumer for doing the right thing—Took ‘guts’” and courage! The big Tax Cuts, L.A. fire fix, Debt Ceiling Bill, and so much more, is coming,” Trump posted on Truth Social Friday morning.

This was literally the only chance to force Republican congresscritters to do something to stop Musk and Trump. You think this is about them; it was about Congress. And now they've abdicated all power of the purse to Musk and Trump. The Rs get to do their budget reconciliation, and Dems have no power of filibuster to stop them. Their messaging was so bad that they united Rs in victory instead of forcing them to fight it out to get the gov't open again.

"People don't realize it yet" because they were thinking farther ahead than you.

Trump got the chainsaw thanks to Schumer. The CR abdicates any "power of the purse" argument that Congress had. The shutdown would have hurt, but this CR solidified Trump/Musk's full control of the entirety of our government. Congress is now powerless. The courts will be gone soon as well. None of that would be true with a shutdown and a full-on campaign by Dems to make sure Americans blame Republicans. This is a big win for the oligarchs and pretty much the end of the Constitution. Pfff. That was QUICK! IT'S GOING TO GET REALLY UGLY REALLY FAST.

I'm all for Ds doing a 50 state ANYTHING at this point. Robyn, you are absolutely correct in saying we can just continue ceding ground to Rs - the electoral college fucks us enough as it is & we'll never overcome it by laying down & hoping our positive qualities somehow magically resonates w voters.
