Petition to label Christianity as harmful to minors and make it a felony for anyone to expose children to obviously harmful Christian material.

Ta, Dok. As I've said before, the library was my safe space throughout childhood and adolescence. Thus, this sickens me.

Yeah, this was after the Library Director resigned after yard signs on "grooming", and a van with a placard parked across the street for a month. Wish it could have gotten state and national attention...

These people are actually the most horrible pieces of garbage on the planet...

Dear Writers:

This is a really, really fantastic time to write really, really filthy books about Republicans. Go wild! You couldn’t buy publicity this good, and THEY’LL pay for it!

You’re welcome.

Yrs,

Notreelyhelping

Viole Falusche's avatar

Any filthy book about Republicans would probably be too icky to get near!

If they can take control, they will make sure that you can't get any of those books legally. They will make it illegal to mail pornography and they'll label everything pornography. Amazon will be bummed.

Vindication of the Rights of Women, The Importance of Being Earnest, Michelle Obama's Becoming, E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. Doddering old white men, plus Thomas, will decide what you read.

I'm from PA and I don't get this whole CS thing. Our sheriffs do security at the county courthouse and office buildings. They transport prisoners from jail to court, serve warrants and a few other duties. They don't even write tickets.

Major Is My Spirit Animal's avatar

Constitutional Sheriffs are basically SovCits with badges and guns.

GiggleSnort's avatar

They are way nutso. Also now not uncommon.

RRJKR's avatar

From PA as well I believe our sheriff system is a bit unique as they only serve as officers of the Courts. Actual Law enforcement and criminal investigation is left to PSP and the wide variety of local yokels we enjoy so much

Craig Nixon's avatar

Constitutional Sheriffs? Man, that's a bizarre kink. They'll be the first to tell you that their entire plank is that they outrank everyone, including, and especially, the POTUS, who is their subordinate...according to them.

Villago Delenda Est 🇺🇦's avatar

Out west, Sheriffs are usually the only LEOs for rural areas. This is true in Lane County, Oregon, and even more true in far more rural Eastern Oregon.

Biff52 Lost Canadian's avatar

I'm in a geographically large county in California. The Sheriff's Office is by far the biggest law enforcement agency in the county, but the Highway Patrol muscles themselves in wherever they want to. Then there's the law enforcement officers of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, US Forest Service, US Parks Service and probation/parole agents, all of whom have the power to red-light and arrest your ass. We're entirely too well policed.

RRJKR's avatar

Public libraries should strive to have as complete a collection as they can obtain, without question! Giving the government the ability to ban one book gives them the ability to ban ANY book. I can understand public school libraries imposing some "age appropriate" standards, but that's really nothing new.

""He reported purchasing each of the 11 titles named in Lowery and Brown’s police report and, over the course of a few months in 2022, read them in their entirety...""

Bullshit. He may have bought the books. He may even have skimmed the books. But there is no way on Crom's blasted planet he has ever read any book in it's entirety not mention ELEVEN whole books.

Absolutely he is lying about this.

Glennis Waterman's avatar

Well, there were probably some passages he read over and over and over and over again.

"Dang, it's chafed. Damn sick book!"

"Honey, you don't get chafed from a book...."

Craig Nixon's avatar

Yeah, I had been meaning to say that also. This fool proably hasn't read 11 books in his entire life to date, unless you count "reading the pictures", as if it were some common presidential briefing.

Lefty Wright's avatar

I bet some of this censorship crap has had a Streisand effect, with more children and adults reading books on the banned list just to see what the controversy is. And concluding "what are they whining about?"

Craig Nixon's avatar

We're not too many years away from the new age in which all the spawn of the Moms For Liberty types join forces to form the fiercest (most fierce?) drag house ever.

Villago Delenda Est 🇺🇦's avatar

I for one have no doubt this is what has happened.

And:

Washoe County libraries cancel drag story hour due to 'aggressive protesters'

Stacey Spain, executive director of Our Center, said a protester reportedly injured a librarian at an event...her biggest concern was that kids would learn that “bullies always win”

Drag queen haters = thugs. Fuckers injured a librarian FFCS.

Hope the program restarts soon:

And the police can't comment, huh.

Bet if the aggressive people were dark-hued and in Reno, the police would provide a lot more commentary.

TerseNurse's avatar

I clicked 'like' on this because I fucking HATE this. Yes, the bullies win. Meanwhile the Republican Congressman/Shitkicker Sherriff/Evangelical Pastor continues to molest little kids and then fucking blame them for the abuse. Excuse me, I must go take a shower and/or an Ativan.

Craig Nixon's avatar

Hey, share is fair.

Important to note that I mean the Ativan, not the shower.

Craig Nixon's avatar

Ah yes, the "self-described First Amendment Auditor". Note that the article doesn't mention an arrest or charges, even though the "auditor" tried to force his way in physically and injured a librarian.

Note also, that these "operations" are ususally carried out by Washoe County Republicans. Funny how that works.

This is NOT the America I learned about in my nice suburban liberal lilly white elementary school back in the late '70s/early '80s, where we all sang 'This Land Is Your Land' (possibly with some lyric modifications/verses skipped?) and 'Free to Be You and Me'. Fucking Fuck, you Fucking Fuckers!

ReSister For Life Callyson's avatar

God damn it...I was told we were making progress when I was a kid. I want that fucking America back!

SkeptiKC's avatar

The thing is that we DID make a helluva lot of progress there for a while. And then the Moral Majority and a few other well-$$$ conservaturd organizations determined that simply would NOT do.

It's been an uphill battle in too many places ever since.

Craig Nixon's avatar

Me too. We were bamboozled. Hoodwinked.
