Hey friend, we seem to have similar interests, and I’m new here so I thought I’d introduce myself with an article.

This one’s about Giants:

Whoever could have guessed that Trump would turn the Smithsonian into a propaganda arm for himself and his narcissism?

Yeah but until recently we all thought the Smithsonian was sacred. Nothing is sacred to this asshole.

Halligan as "avid" and "well-read" fan of history demands we ask: What in the fucking hell is she reading? What counts as "history" in MAGAland? I know Bill O'Reilly and other muckity mucks have a carriage trade in "alternative conservative history", but that's mainly speculative stuff. Mel Gibson doesn't write, as far as I know.

She's sure not reading Team of Rivals.

Many dissertations could be written about the many ways this directive from the MAGA White House is chillingly authoritarian - “celebrate American exceptionalism, remove divisive or partisan narratives, and restore confidence in our shared cultural institutions.” So, jingoism, followed by one political party defining what is “divisive,” theoretically by removing anything liberal, and restoring “confidence” in cultural institutions by having an extremist government meddle with nonpartisan institutions. Everything this administration does divides us further, and causes any non-MAGA people to doubt the legitimacy of everything.

I salute the Wonkette team for continuing to cover these stories which always seem to involve some person who is wildly inappropriate for the job doing something horrible to please the orange one. I have to step away from the computer at times. On the days when my work load is so crazy that I don't have time to eat, I am grateful that I am not available for doom scrolling.

Make no mistake, I keep informed of all the awful but the enforced periods of absence have become a blessing.

I know you guys have to look at everything and analyze the train wreck. I used to do a job like that and I send you my love

Way back in January 2017, with Trump just elected, ROLLING STONE printed an article by Jesse Berney, headlined "Welcome to Donald Trump's Ignorant America." The subhead was, "Arts and humanities get at the truth of things - so naturally Trump's administration plans to defund them."

It's not as though it was hard to see coming.

I have been both a federal employee and a military member. And I ask myself, at what point would I have said, “Fuck this fucking shit straight into the fucking sun” and walked out? And while it’s easy for me to say now that it would have happened already if I were still working, I can’t blame the people with families and mortgages and kids with braces for keeping their heads down so the paycheck keeps coming.

But I can hope that they will reach a breaking point, and the mass exodus from government employ will absolutely shut it down. Is there an organization collecting and distributing money for today’s conscientious objectors? Because I would contribute to that.

So they're going to erase "divisive or ideologically driven language" from exhibits at the Smithsonian.

Would that include all the Confederate states' articles of secession, in which they so clearly state they are dividing the Union and committing treason in order to maintain (and extend) slavery?

I am going to stand up for Threepio and say, no, he wouldn’t sign the loyalty oath to Trump, and I think it’s not fair to his characterization to say so. In the original trilogy there were multiple times where Threepio could have sold out Luke and the others. Four come to mind immediately: when the consular ship is attacked at the opening of Episode 4, when Luke and the others are trapped in the garbage unit, in Mos Eisley when the stormtroopers are looking for them, and in Cloud City when he gets hauled off and disassembled. All of these were situations where, if Threepio felt like he was in danger from the Empire, ratting out the Rebellion would have been extremely easy. But he never does. He flat-out lies to whoever opens the door on the Death Star. So come on, give Threepio his due. Being prissy and scared doesn’t make him a traitor. It just makes him Threepio.
