I usually make it a point to read nice times articles right away but somehow passed over this one, which is probably hood bc Amy Klobuchar is completely worthless.
Also a shout-out to Rep, Melanie Stansbury, who wouldn't let Comer talk over her as she made clear that Oversight is failing to do its duty by refusing to bring in musk for questioning. This isn't the vid in which he rudely tries to talk over her, but it gives you a glimpse of her:
"Fetterman is to be expected (my apologies for ever having defended that ass)"
Perhaps the time to stop defending him was when you learned about his chasing that Black jogger down with a shotgun, refusing to apologize, and lying about the incident repeatedly.
But I guess a man's allowed to be an ammosexual and (very probably) Klan-grade racist if he happens to be large and white and occasionally gloms on to Bernie.
The universe keeps serving up simpler and simpler tests of character, and the progressive wing is no better at passing them than MAGAs. At least MAGAs could probably tell you that rape and murder sprees are bad; progressives are still going, "depends, were the victims Jewish?"
If you haven't heard, there will be an economic blackout Feb 28 nationwide. This means don't buy ANYTHING unless it's from a small business. No gas, fast food, and definitely not Target, Walmart, or Amazon.
Get the word out! We want THEM to see that WE have the power. We will start with 1 day, then 3, then specific companies until our message is heard.
Honestly, I don't know what the hell is up with Klobuchar, playing all nicey-nicey with the Republicans and, of all people, trump. The days of bipartisan palling around are over, the gloves have to come off and it's time to fight for the people who sent her to Washington in the first place.
I was going to email her about my displeasure, but apparently no one wants to hear from ex-pats who are still American citizens—the email form on her web page does not allow for emails from anyone unless their address is located in Minnesota and they have an American phone number. I have kids and grandkids back in that state who will be affected by these incompetents that trump is installing in every part of the government and the LAST thing they need is to have one of their own senators voting for it! I met her when she was on the campaign trail back in the 2000s, she stopped by my office for a meet & greet photo op and a chat. She seemed pretty real and down-to-earth and for a long time, I always felt she was. But now? Maybe she's been in DC too long (18 years) but she seems to be just another cog in the beaurocratic bullshit machine, burping out what she *thinks* people want her to say.
She's very much out of touch with her constituents and the whole political atmosphere right now and I regret that I voted to help get her there in '06. I now have my daughter-in-law (the REAL activist in the family) writing to representatives and senators in my stead. I love that girl.
She's a total fraud, and having lived in MN since 1993 I have a lot of citations in support of my claim. She also thinks she's WAY more charming than she actually is, and it's exhausting. If Minnesotans weren't so fond of her dad, she'd never have made it beyond county attorney. And county attorney was a stretch.
Invent an address that is close to the street address of one of her field offices. Ditto phone number -- type in a number that is a few digits off from her field office's no. (In my experience, reps and sens don't call constituents -- they reply to comments via email or snail mail -- so the person whose number that is won't be inconvenienced.)
My job is to continue to “encourage” Hassan and Shaheen (NH) to sack up and block these bitches. They have a shitty record so far (Shaheen slightly better), but we shall see.
All this horrendously racist and destructive Trumpism is temporary. It isn’t sustainable, not for Congress to function, or for society to function. It’s going to prove to destabilize the market and economy, as Trump isolates America and alienates our allies and trade partners. As he gets even older and his health declines, he’s going to grow angrier and even more spiteful and impulsive.
Even the GOP know this is all a dark, precarious phase. Most of them are secretly frightened, and simply toeing the line to protect themselves and their careers. The die hards feel paranoid and unsure of their mission and the support of the people for it. Why else would article after article talk of the consequences of any Republican or anyone else failing to blindly, faithfully further Trump’s agenda. Except Trump has no agenda. He’s a propped-up barking fool and puppet for the masterminds of Project 2025. That mission to restore segregation, Christian nationalism and white, male dominance will go down in history as the rebirth of Nazism. We are deporting people, destroying jobs and socialist programs without any legal basis or debate in Congress, threatening journalists and extracting settlements with platforms that criticize Trump, and now they are attempting to end federal support for public schools, public television and NPR. If it isn’t fawning right wing propaganda, it’s under attack. And now Trump is ordering a Federal Faith organization that will “protect Christianity” from anti-Christian sentiment, a blatant marriage of church and state. It’s all bad. If anyone pushes back, resists or disagrees, they are being threatened and intimidated. This is precisely what fascism looks like.
Starting to think both parties are going to be fractured and changed, if democracy is even still the system ten years from now. We're in some chaotic madness, and radical change is inevitable at this point.
Republican doesn't mean anything anymore. Are you Bible MAGA? Crypto MAGA? Corporation MAGA? Democrats, too. I will always vote against the God-botherers and/or corporate sociopaths, but that "God on his throne" madness and the older members in charge Just. Not. Caring. Because why would they? Their "legacy" is secured and the end is in sight for them.
The tiny optimist in me hopes from all this chaos and suffering, some significant and positive progress can sprout from it all.
I'll cut her some slack and see how she fights the coming battles. Their deal is the unitary executive which they view as the supreme authority, not a coequal branch. Congress would give up it's power if they let him roll, so it's not in their interest, Klobs may be able to talk some senators (R) off the cliff.
"I'll cut her some slack and see how she fights the coming battles. "
Before you do that, you should maybe take a look at how she's "fought" the last ones
I don't have video -- on top of every other thing that's made it a ridiculous day, I have a family member who's not well in great part bc she didn't do everything she needed to do for self, and I have all the caregiving responsibilities related thereto -- but I don't know ...
there's two things I have to say about this
There's a big difference between what people SAY and what people DO (and the extent to which they actually *follow through* when they say the right thing, given how much we know the literal desire to codify apartheid has to do with the current intrusions into U.S. federal government)
(especially when "racism is a distraction" does not address the problem when immigration protections are stripped from Venezuelans, Haitians, and Cubans and they're granted for White South Afrikaaners only, which is what I'm just learning watching Rachel)
i hear you about a family member not doing the things needed. my ancient mom just ignored a UTI and went into dementia for like 10 days. she's been in rehab for 3 weeks and i just got in another fight with her about allowing people to help her.
I went through that with Mom in the VCU. They don't recognize you, they try to fight off the nurses who are helping, it's horrible
I actually am looking for an online support group for People With Parents Like Ours, non-specifically speaking … if I find something that looks useful, would you want me to drop you a link …?
exactly EXACTLY what happened to us (and part of the drama was my special needs brother died in the middle of all this, so she likely had PTSD on top of it.
and man my so very nice canadian mother turned SO fucking mean. and litigious...).
yes PLEASE would love a group link. literally all the women in my life have chimed in with a similar story.
It's amazing to me consistently how widespread this abuse is at the same time the whole culture likes to turn its head (and it gets worse the more of them who act like him get fauxlected)
I'm going to reach out to someone in BK - psychotherapist and LCSW who was running a group in the BK in 2023, among others - let me see if they're still doing it
In the meantime, if you don't read or listen to Dr. Ramani, maybe she has some things that might help
"State Sen. Bradford Blackmon said he introduced his Contraception Begins at Erection Act as a satirical response to Mississippi state law which bans women from having abortions, with limited exceptions to save the mother's life or if the pregnancy resulted from rape."
His bill would make it illegal to "discharge genetic material without the intent to fertilize an embryo." "Anyone convicted of this would be fined $1,000 for a first offense, $5,000 for the second offense and then $10,000 for any additional offenses."
Maybe bills like this should be introduced to all the state senates. He got an 80% approval from women and 50% from men.
I'm glad she seems to have stopped voting like a fucking asshole, but I'm still pretty mad at Gillibrand. She's got a lot of ground to make up with me.
I usually make it a point to read nice times articles right away but somehow passed over this one, which is probably hood bc Amy Klobuchar is completely worthless.

So, Trump agrees with the last person he talked to. We knew that about him already

Amy, Amy, Amy. He's really not that into you.
As a Minnesotan, I am so disappointed in Amy. She just won the current term and I was excited to vote for her. Not any more.
I hear you
And I only have family there; I'm not from there

I think Sen. Blackmon from Mississippi should count as one to love. I didn't see any articles on here about him.

😤
I understand being traumatized but if that's your situation and your past trauma doesn't let you do your job, maybe either get some extra help or ...?
I'm glad to see that neither Schiff nor Padilla was on either of those lists above.
I sent messages to both through their websites thanking them for speechifying on the Senate floor against Russ Vought for OMB.
Contact your legislators so that they know you're watching them! 👀
Thanks Robyn.
I mostly stayed away from news so far today. I know I'll need to catch up, but for the moment I needed a break.
