The creepy wingnut hall of fame. I never get tired of the Anita Bryant pie face, or Bethany Mandel getting stumped by “what is woke?” Her answer is brilliant. “It’s, um, ah, oh, I’m really on the spot here. It’s really hard to define, which is part of the problem. It’s like people believing the myth that anyone has ever been oppressed at any time in history, or something such as.”
Pleased to have been a longtime Montgomery County MD resident. Besides being educated, there are a ton of doctors, lawyers, and federal government employees living there, none of whom would have much sympathy for a conservative trying to falsely dictate science, the law, and the role of government in public life.
Plus you have Governor Moore, who is a literal hero as (among so many other things) he was the first to send Rescue Teams to the crash even though MTV Duffy shouted out Nazi "Governor" Youngkin, who didn't even show up, and completely ignored Governor Moore's teams who were the first state teams on the scene

"And, how would California teach California history under this plan? Ignore those Japanese internment camps?"
Yeah, about those camps!
I grew up a short walk away from the Sharp Park Detention Station, and a short drive away from the Tanforan Assembly Center. We heard mention of Tanforan in a history class, but I never heard about Sharp Park until a few years ago when I was visiting the Manzanar War Relocation Center. There was an envelope addressed to a prisoner at Manzanar from another prisoner at Sharp Park on display. My sister and I looked at each other in shock because it was news to us. So, unless things have changed since I was in school a long time ago, ain't nobody learning about those joints unless they're actively looking for knowledge.
"And, how would California teach California history under this plan? Ignore those Japanese internment camps?"
That is certainly what they'd prefer
These are people who want fairy tales instead of "history", in order to force everyone to do their bidding according to what THEY say the law is (no matter how sloppy and error-ridden and bigotry-driven their analysis has been and continues to be)
Here in Denver, I actually did learn about them, which was impressive for the 80's. It likely helps that our Governor during WW2 torpedoed his own career to both decry the camps and invite Japanese-Americans to stay here and rebuild.
I think the mantra we might need to adopt in the wake and face of a continued attempted overthrow of American democracy (always important to remember they can’t do it if we don’t let them) is that it can always get worse
I'm not sure I ever thought I'd have to remind people who voted for the Policy Lady just like I did that the way Hitler first got into power was by being *democratically elected* -- as well as overwhelming the populace by "flooding the zone with crap" while people were fired and arrested and the Drumpf regime is following their lil' playbook like champs -- but here we are
It's all fun and games when your guy is doing it, but eventually the Dems will get tired of being the adult in the room and return the favor and make little Billy and Sally read hardcore pornography as part of pre-K lesson planning instead of from their cell phones in middle school like St. Elon intended.
I've been making a quiet list in my head of things that give me any small degree of reassurance that we'll prevail against "It CAN Happen Here."
One of the items is that our authority for dissent and criticism derives not simply from the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, but has ALSO been granted by THAT GUY HIMSELF, through his endless defenses of his own crude criticisms by saying that he has the right to defend himself, to "fight back" and "hit back."
My cynical-ass take from way back in the day was that the Democrats will fuck over anyone making more than $250K per year to gain the favor of the unproductive poor while the Republicans will fuck over anyone making $250K per year or less to gain the favor of the unproductive rich. Since I'd rather the poor folk get decent places to live with heat in the winter and AC in the summer than the rich folk get vacation homes in Vail to go with their existing vacation homes in Kennebunkport and Gstaad, I became a Dem and have been one for nearly 50 years.
Seeing the Dems become the center-right party, leaning ever harder rightward, and all the rolling-over here in the early day of PAB47, I'm really starting to understand folks I spent a lot of time deriding over the years as "purity ponies." As a sick old fuck, I likely don't have all that much time left, and am seriously doubting whether I want to spend ANY of it as a Dem.
One way or another, though, it's time to make resistance allies wherever and whenever we find them.
While I'd prefer that the Progressives were setting the Democratic agenda, I think I'm correct in saying that things were much more stable and prices were not outrageous under Centrist Biden. (I even got most of my presciription meds for $0). The exceptions were (and still are) things like grocery prices, for which the president gets all the blame even though he has no control. (As soon as Trump got elected, he admitted he can't make grocery prices go down.) Everything Trump has been doing in the short time he's been president has been at the behest of white supremacists and one percenters. Their goals are to create chaos so that nothing can be done that will actually benefit the vast majority of Americans. So maybe stick with the Dems, since it's unlikely that a new, more progressive party is going to emerge anytime soon.
Something good out of Ohio? Yes please!
"Mao would tsk at the sloppiness."
I'm sure current, former and deceased dictators are pointing and laughing at various things we're seeing. Sad.
Having lived and worked in Montgomery County MD, great place and the roads are fucking amazing too.

Went to school from 4th - 6th in Montgomery County. Was a nice place

We have a family in our church in N Metro Denver who were kids in the Colorado camp. Lovely people.

Bethany Mandel is bad enough, but Moms For Liberty chapter chair Kit Hart makes Bethany look like a savior in comparison.

But, again, only if we let it

You know who else was fond of vague catchphrases?

Not in OUR lifetimes apparently, but someday.

There is a big difference between steering smoothly through a turn and careening off the guardrails while "moving fast and breaking things".
The people currently flailing at their supposed 'mission' would be winnowed out by the meritocracy for which they advocate.
But if children do not learn that white men are their natural superiors, how will they be able to function as adults?
They won't be adults. Look at the crybaby MAGAts pissing and moaning "Why my face, Lord Trump? WHY MY FACE????"
Not the face!
