I hope that we win all of the lawsuits, Katie, but I REALLY, REALLY hope that we win this one. CFPB has been a kick-ass agency.

Ta, Dok. I love Elizabeth Warren, and particularly loved her heroic takedown of Michael R. Bloomberg during that oh-so-long-ago presidential primary.

The #1 mission of the unreconstructed-controlled government is to make sure the whims of its favored people are prioritized. And if there's something in federal government that's helping all Americans, that has to be destroyed. Federal government doing good things cuts down their propaganda.

Because you must remember, the federal government is the last bulwark that protects vulnerable minorities from their state-based regimes of terror. We've already seen a lot of terror visited. And now the unreconstructed are in control and they look forward to doling out more and more pain as part of their sadopopulism.

So angry these fucks are just destroying our entire government.

I wonder if these cost-cutting zealots ever bother to think about all the unemployment compensation they're going to have to pay all these government workers they're kicking out. Unless they're planning on getting rid of unemployment compensation, too. Which wouldn't surprise me.

<Probably the biggest win was against Wells Fargo Bank, which paid a record $3.7 billion settlement in 2022>

Just the cost of doing business. 'Tis just a scratch.

<Wells Fargo (WFC) shares climbed in pre-market trading Wednesday after the bank reported fourth-quarter profit and net interest income that topped analysts' estimates. The lender reported $5.08 billion in net income for the quarter, up from $3.45 billion last year and above analysts' expectations. Revenue lagged estimates at $20.38 billion, down from $20.48 billion a year ago.> https://www.investopedia.com/wells-fargo-q4-fy-2024-earnings-8773475

NOTE: The USA dropped below the "democracy threshold" (+6) on the POLITY scale in 2020 and

was considered an anocracy (+5) at the end of the year 2020; the USA score for 2021 returned to democracy (+8).

Beginning on 1 July 2024, due to the US Supreme Court ruling granting the US Presidency broad, legal immunity,

the USA is noted by the Polity Project as experiencing a regime transition through, at least, 20 January 2025.

As of the latter date, the USA is coded EXREC=8, "Competitive Elections"; EXCONST=1 "Unlimited Executive Authority";

and POLCOMP=6 "Factional/Restricted Competition." Polity scores: DEMOC=4; AUTOC=4; POLITY=0.

The USA is no longer considered a democracy and lies at the cusp of autocracy; it has experienced a

Presidental Coup and an Adverse Regime Change event (8-point drop in its POLITY score).

Users of the Polity data series should be aware that Polity measures patterns of authority demonstrated and observed in political behaviors involving interaction events between and within state and non-state entities. Polity measures political practices rather than promises or proclamations. In 2016, CSP changed the coding for Political Competition in the USA to Factional Competition (i.e., POLCOMP=7); this coding change dropped the USA's POLITY score to +8. According to the PITF Global Model, this change to "factional competition" placed the USA at high risk of impending political instability (i.e., adverse regime change and/or onset of "systematic and sustained" political violence; possible worst case would be the "collapse of central authority"). The CSP COUP dataset lists an "attempted coup" (COUP=2) for the USA on 6 January 2021 and a successful coup (COUP=1) on 20 January 2025.

OT: Furnace repair folks can come out tomorrow. Temp in the house holding steady at 46°. Brrrito!

Dina's avatar

Ours broke down literally the day after I got out of the hospital for pneumonia. Fortunately, we're in England so the temp held in the house around the high 50s and we have a couple really nifty, effective little electric space heaters that worked well for a few days before my husband could get the right part to fix our boiler. Plus, we have more crocheted afghans than one household really needs, so we were okay. Hope you can bundle up and stay warm until the repairman gets there!

Lol, it kinda seems like it on some of these damp, gray days when it feels like the house won't warm up no matter what! I've turned into a weather wuss since moving here from MN—now I won't go outside if it's in the low 40s but I used to be tempted to run around outside in my undies if it got above freezing in February.
