Donald Trump has shamelessly and publicly committed massive treason on a scale that exceeds the crimes of James Wilkinson, Robert Hanssen and Aldrich Ames. Plus a bunch I can't even remember. He should receive the maximum punishment for his crimes.

Does that pass?

marcus816's avatar

And I hope he lives a very long time right there where he belongs.

I remember about a million years ago when Digby's Hullabaloo had a comments section that got so shot through with vile scum making ugly comments that Heather Digby Parton had to shitcan the whole idea. Don't want to see that happen here.

Close the comments, lose the readers. Sure, sounds like a plan.

Alpaca22's avatar

if you find the particular rule too onerous I am sure Twitter has a spot for you

Tecolote's avatar

“to” onerous? Hey, we’ve got a Doctor of Rhetoric here.

Alpaca22's avatar

my deepest apologies.

What A Debacle's avatar

Close the comments, don't close the comments. Whatever.

But, don't wag your finger like a kindergarten teacher at a group of adults who have been pushed to the brink by this administration.

Doktor Zoom's avatar

Fine. Let me be clearer: No calling for people to die, because after one person started it off by wishing Trump dead, another piled on with a wish that it be as painful as possible, and if I hadn't deleted the subthread, more people would have been writing about particular ways they would like to see him suffer.

I know, shame on me for being schoolmarmish.

If that is the sort of discourse you want to encourage, please set up your own substack, because we are not doing it here.

Here's a apple we shined for ya Dok : )

Snarfyguy's avatar

Can't fault the place for enforcing its own guidelines.

paul's avatar

I wonder what someone said to trigger the blanket warning.

Doktor Zoom's avatar

Some very open wishing for a very bad person to die.

Yeah, I get it. But the fucker won't see it and won't be affected by it, and this is not a place where we encourage fantasies about how neat it would be if people died.

DemoCat's avatar

Especially sitting potuses, no matter how retched they may be. The last thing any of us need is a visit from the Secret Service or any other Trump goon squad. Or Trump’s people claiming Wonkette is encouraging violence.

Nature is going to do its job faster than our crippled democracy can. The bigger issue is how to convince the majority of this country that they need to vote, and they need to vote this movement out. It truly felt like 2021, post J6, was the end of MAGA. Trump started collecting federal indictments and the prospect of him resuming his political career seemed laughable. No one is laughing now.

MRK's avatar

I've missed whatever set Dok off, but if one thread gets closed because people can't behave themselves, the site and the community will survive. Sadly, it wouldn't even be the first time they've had to do it.

It wasn't banhammerable but it was definitely in violation of the rules, and it was followed by at least one person trying to top it.

So it's gone. That's all, no permanent record, and please don't repeat it. I like you and your kitties and I understand we're all at wit's end.

But yes, we intend to keep enforcing the goddamn rules until Rebecca tells me we're going to be a blog where fantasizing about how we'd like to see the worst president of all time die — followed by others adding how painful they would like it to be — is the norm.

Hamilton & The Crew's avatar

I still feel contrite. And The Crew hasn't called me on the carpet yet.

I can always post to my own substack. And if I post banhammerable shit, I can just refrain from linking it to here.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall in that jury room. The verdict smacks of attempted Solomonic baby-splitting, done by folks perhaps intimidated by the federal prosecutors and lacking and complete understanding of the legalities. Has any member of the jury spoken publicly?

DemoCat's avatar

This is ridiculous. But that’s life in this era. So much of it is ridiculous.

UnDrewsual's avatar

"He suggested the juror’s split verdict was puzzling and said some elements of one charge against Dugan were the same as the elements needed to prove the other.

“How can you find (her) guilty there and not guilty on the first?” Biskpuic asked."

Perhaps one should follow-up on the jurors and see if they seem to have suddenly had mysterious financial windfalls and/or if it turns out that most of them are frequent MAGA rally attendees and avid Fox News watchers.

Ta, Dok. I. Just. Can't. Even.

beb's avatar

I think Dickens put it best, "If that is the law then the law is an ass." pr words to that effect.

CambridgeKnitter's avatar

As I recall, it's "the law is a ass." Having not read the original, I don't know why it was put that way.

What A Debacle's avatar

I wonder how many Polly Purebred libs will join the fight when Trump tries to overturn the midterms.

It may take more than rhetoric and nice manners.

Somebody should tell Couchfucker that, when Chump goes, all that pissed-off rage the GOP has about Chump is going to land right in his pudgy little lap.

Juries. Can't love 'em, can't get rid of 'em. One lone juror in my own case voted Guilty simply because she was offended by the way my attorney shredded an ex-cop's character and behavior on the witness stand because her own daughter was a cop. That's not how it's supposed to work, and the judge had given the jury very clear instructions THREE TIMES on how it's supposed to work. So now I get another trial and have to spend another $100,000 on lawyers all because of one moronic juror. This happens more often than you would think.

josephebacon's avatar

I lost count of the number of juries I was on where there was at least one jerk who didn't want to convict or acquit...multiple times I was on hung juries and nothing is more frustrating than that!

Old Man Yells at Cloud's avatar

When you get on that sweet $10-a-day gravy train....

Not me. Since I was a Federal Civil Servant I had to refund every bit of jury duty money to the Agency.

"DOJ confirms that Trump's name is indeed on every page of the Epstein Files"

Queen Méabh's avatar

Even if they redact his name, it shouldn't be that difficult to figure out which black bar is the right length to fit his name.

gene108's avatar

Either her defense counsel was bad or the jury was MAGA heavy.

Queen Méabh's avatar

Jurors can be morons. They often vote based on personal feelings about things completely unrelated to the testimony or evidence, which they are clearly instructed by the judge not to do. It happened at my trial.

imissthosesparks TYFYATTM's avatar

Going through the pages of the released Epstein files may be something like:

Page 1: Completely redacted

Page 2: Completely redacted

Page 3: Completely redacted

Page 4: Completely redacted except for "Bill Clinton"

Page 5: Completely redacted

Page 6: Completely redacted

Page 7: Completely redacted

And etc.
