I actually went to the one year anniversary of the "Battle of Bunkerville" held a couple of weeks ago at the Bundy Ranch. Fiore spoke there, sandwiched between some crazy militia people calling the president a Muslim terrorist and a black supremacist. I actually found Cliven Bundy almost sympathetic. He and his family seemed a bit uncomfortable with all the crazy. They're grateful to these people who came to help them when the Feds tried to impound his cattle, but when Cliven took the stage to speak I heard echoes of Rodney King's "can't we all just get along" plea. I don't think he wants to be a martyr in some apocalyptic cause, he just wants to keep his ranch and his freedom in a personal and very real sense - you know, not going to jail for not paying the million dollars he owes the Federal Government? He knows these crazy people with guns are probably the only reason he still has both his ranch and his freedom, but he also must know that the crazy people might lead him and his family somewhere more dramatic if they get too bored. That puts him in a kind of a bind, and makes him conflicted and therefore interesting and sympathetic. But that's probably just my bleeding heart.
In other words, he's in precisely the same position as the GNoP. They let in the Tea Baggers because they thought that would give them the best chance to beat Mr. Obama.
They couldn't do that, but now they are stuck with the Tea Baggers. The Republican Uncivil War rages on.
then they could lease the grazing rights for 5 or 10 times more than the government charges. Or, develop the land and push the ranchers off. Win/Win! And of course the ranchers will blame the feds for the land being taken away
They do that already... at least if we concentrate them in one area, we can save money by shipping insulin in bulk.
