I was broke and hungry in Wisconsin, many eons ago, and still nominally RC. Catholic Charities turned me away. I went to an Episcopal Church, and the priest gave me food, a little cash, and directions to a safe shelter.

When I drifted back home and wanted to go back to church, I chose Canterbury, not Rome. All that is to say that I can't look at Catholic Charities with an unprejudiced eye. The reasons they gave me were religious, and I haven't forgotten.

***Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God's.***

This justice is not as clever as she thinks she is. Unemployment insurance would fall under the Caesar side of that admonition -- therefore, pay your fucking taxes, Catholic Charities.
