VOCAL CORDS BLEED FROM SCREAMING INTO THE VOID

Expand full comment
Bitter Scribe's avatar

You know what that poor woman is to the Right? She's a modern version of those whores who bled to death from illegal abortions before Roe.

A Roman Catholic prelate wrote in a syndicated newspaper column that such "girls" deserved only as much sympathy as a radical who blew herself up making a bomb that she intended to plant as a terrorist act.*

This person actually had the nerve to represent himself as a man of God.

*I wonder if Monsignor Fuckface would stick to that analogy if the bomb had been intended to blow up an abortion clinic.

One of the reasons doctors are leaving states with abortion bans is the moral quandary the laws create for them Gift link to the Atlantic: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2024/10/abortion-ban-idaho-ob-gyn-maternity-care/679567/?gift=OVnLfoJ1a4h0u6E9YLnn7cQNyzyT0l4CfuDdp_lNUs0&utm_source=copy-link&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share

I hate that this happened in my state. I hate that this happened in America. I hate that this happened to anyone in the 21st century. We're supposed to be better than this.

I'm glad I got my uterus removed in 2022 because any pregnancy would have probably killed me (although I was officially considered barren due to my mutant organ so the procedure was considered medically necessary. Woo, $100 copay. Thanks Kaiser!)

What I want to know is where is the Doctor who is willing to stand up to this shit and be a test case???

Help the women and show how fucked this system is.....

Cock Blockula's avatar

Why the doctor? Why not the family of the woman who died? They would not sue the doc or care team, but sue the state.

Expand full comment
Gary Seven in Space's avatar

Because we don't want women to die. We need a doctor who treats a patient like this to force the State to actually enforce it. Will they? Will they make excuses? Force their hand.

Spleen Victoria's avatar

They will enforce it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Morgentaler#Judicial_battles

And enforce it, and enforce it, and enforce it. It will be worse in the US, where you don’t have a constitution that will eventually put an end to this. In Canada they were eventually told the constitution put an end to it so quit trying this crap.

Without a similar system, you are Chile before 2017 or El Salvador. AND THIS IS WHAT THE END GAME IS. Not by accident did Morgentaler tilt at his biggest windmills in Quebec, where the Catholic Church had a stranglehold on the government for 300 years. Not by accident are complete bans in primarily Catholic countries. Who do you think spearheaded American prolife efforts? The evangelical community is Johnny come lately to this effort.

This right here is why I will never vote Conservative up here. They keep trying to fuck this same chicken, so fuck them.

I don't want women to die. I'm thinking the family would have standing to sue and could get the ball rolling since the docs would eventually get dragged into it. But as someone pointed out earlier, the ACOG or AMA should be swarming and suing over these state rules and not tut-tutting and wringing their hands.

Expand full comment
Gary Seven in Space's avatar

Of course you don't, but the next doctor who turns someone away may cause another woman to die. When the State is forced to stare this down it will blink.

We just need one very brave doctor to risk their freedom and their license.

Cynica's avatar

Unfortunately, we need an entire surgical team. The way the laws are written, anyone participating in the abortion could be prosecuted--nurses, anesthetist, all of them would have to be willing to face professional ruin and possible incarceration.

It makes me wonder how the doctors of those who’ve died because of inaction due to these laws feel about it. Do they feel they’ve made the right choice?

Expand full comment
Gary Seven in Space's avatar

I'm sure there are some who would, we just need to bring them the test case. Find a patient and bring to a specific clinic where a handpicked team awaits.

Set up a test case.

The description of what they did do to her sounds almost random. Like, she's going to die anyway but we'll speed it up? Or the "DO Something!" Syndrome.

I can't understand what the reasoning was for that dangerous drug.

I wish the article had stuck to the point that she died because she was denied lifesaving surgery instead of going off on that weird, paranoid tangent about Levophed.

When you die of sepsis, you die of low blood pressure. You reach the point that you can't really perfume your brain or other vital organs. You get confused and your organs start to shut down. The real treatment is controlling the source of infection with your (eventual) immune response, antibiotics, and things like surgery, but you've got to live long enough for those things to happen/start to work. The standard of care is to maintain blood pressure with drugs that raise blood pressure (Levophed being the one that is shown to have the best outcomes) if more conservative measures like fluids fail.

The fact that she was on that drug is just a symptom of how sick she was. It didn't cause her death.

Her blood pressure was dropping and/or rising, so treat the symptoms, I suppose?

An extra rant, many of the "pro life" denominations perform funeral rights for miscarried and stillborn children. Recovering the remains of an already deceased fetus for burial easily falls within required accommodations for a patient's religious beliefs. The bigger picture is that the MAGA "alt right" are untethered from any religious tradition.

Nope, the average cop will let someone they shot (for whatever reason or excuse) bleed out on the ground. You centrists slay me! (Not meant literally!)

I can already see the reply the forced birthers will have for this: "It wuz the bortion pill that killed her!!!1!11 God punished her for being an evil Marxist witch!!!!!!!!!1!1111!1111!!!!!!!"

Then they'll start yammering about this being proof that the pill should be banned entirely, and fantasizing about putting that case before the supreme Court.
