Ugh. If only good/evil - reward/punishment were that simplistic. Many American evangelists share a similarly childish view of that relationship.

I have to smile, KJB - any sane Catholic will tell you there's quite a difference between "Catholics" and "Catholicism". While some hard-liners do follow all of the Vatican's strictures, most of us have a somewhat more "realistic" view of life. ;0) Oddly, I think my honeybun and I would prefer to have no religious affiliation at all than be non-Catholics. That's not religious bias - it would just seem so "alien" to us. Happily, nothing could isolate us from our families - both of our parents and siblings are relatively "liberal" Catholics, most especially where family is concerned. Our families have been pretty consistently supportive. In fact, one somewhat humorous issue we continue to face is that both his mother and my mother are just *itching* to plan a big church wedding for the two of us - in the Cathedral-Basilica where my family has been married for several centuries - but can't figure out how to do so under the present circumstances. ;0)

I'm happy you "got out," KJB - from what we see in our media, Indian misogyny seems to be a very real and violent danger. I still don't understand it, but hope that a woman President might go at least some small distance towards reducing and eliminating this bizarre form of bigotry.
