Later one gf got us to sneak out & run around the neighborhood- ding dong ditching ….. we weren’t smoking any weed - but they could’ve come high-

Needless to say we got caught - my dad was cool 😎 I felt like shit- but I loved the film

I still remember, and delight in, Trapper John's outburst after he punches out Frank Burns. "I have had it with that sky pilot. He's the worst surgeon in the outfit, and every time a patient croaks on him, he says it's 'Gooooood's Will' - or someone else's fault. And this time he blamed a kid who was stupid enough to believe him."

A tirade that applies to fundie evangelist preachers in general and Kenneth Copeland in particular.

I watched this recently and I was also struck by the fact that the harassment of “Hot Lips” didn’t age well. I actually found myself feeling sorry for her and was a little embarrassed for my younger self. (Sally Kellerman was great!)

Frank Burns was an asshole, though and deserved everything he got. (Robert Duvall was awesome.)

Otherwise all is quiet here in Central OK. My divorce has been finalized, Mt mortgage application is complete, and I have applied for my new social security card. School is going just peachy, as is work. Both are great, as a matter of fact.

Every criminal trial I’ve been involved in has the judge explaining this a couple of times and as a defense counsel I usually did too at the start of my closing—“so this is the last time I get to speak to you, the state gets one more chance which is fair, because remember that very high burden they have?”

First world woes: the refridge fix did not work, so it is probably something even worse. I decided rather than to keep throwing money at this lemon, that it was time to let it go and get a new one.

So, we did the typical american Memorial day thing yesterday and went sale shoppin.

Felt a little soiled yes. Generally, I do nothing more objectionable on that specific day than some light gardening. Both hubby's family and mine have lost people during service, so we tend to take the day of reflection a might serious, though not serious enough to attend a parade or something.

However, I got my poppy, so that was worthwhile.

New fridge comes thursday. Settled on a pretty high rated GE. Was pondering a Whirlpool or an Amana, but the Amana was too small and the whirlpool's ice maker was two cube trays that I thought was super funny but I want my convenience. End price was one of those too low to advertise ones, but only for the stainless steel, which I am guessing is not popular this year.

Did not look into the make or model to see if it was a decent year or vehicle. Just looked cool and sporty.

I am seriously considering revoking his debit card.

Today . . . in HISTORY!

5-28

585 BC: Two kings have their armies fighting, and they’re getting ready for Round Two when a solar eclipse predicted by the Greek philosopher-scientist Thales occurs. Duly impressed by this, a truce is declared (the earliest event where a precise date is known).

1588: The Spanish Armada starts out for England. It’ll take until May 30th for all of the 130 ships to get out to sea.

1754: 22-year-old Lt. Colonel George Washington gets his first military victory when the Virginia militia under his command beats a French recon force in southwestern Pennsylvania.

1830: US Pres. Andrew Jackson signs off on the Indian Removal Act, denying Native Americans land rights and forcibly relocating them. Gods, he was an asshole.

1871: The Paris Commune finally falls. Marx and other socialists will spend a lot of air and ink dissecting it and figuring out what went wrong.

1892: John Muir founds the Sierra Club.

1905: The Battle of Tsushima started yesterday; it ends today with the destruction or capture of most of the Russian ships by the Japanese Navy.

1934: The Dionne quintuplets are born in Ontario, Canada. They’ll be the first quints to survive infancy.

1936: Alan Turing submits a paper titled “On Computable Numbers” for publication. Goodness, he vas vun SCHMOTT guy.

1937: Volkswagen is founded, basically as a scam to grift money from the German public.

1948: Daniel Malan becomes Prime Minister of South Africa, and will soon start setting up the apartheid state. What an asshole.

1961: Peter Benenson publishes an article in several international newspapers, titled “The Forgotten Prisoners.” This is considered to be the genesis of the Amnesty International human rights organization.

1964: The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is founded. Yasser Arafat is made the first leader.

1987: 18-year-old West German Matthias Rust flies a small plane through the most heavily defended airspace on Earth and lands in Red Square in Moscow. Yes, heads did roll; why did you need to ask?

1998: Not to be outdone by India, Pakistan sets off its first nukes. The USA, Japan, and other nations immediately impose economic sanctions.

1999: Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’ goes back on display after 22 years of restoration.

2002: The final steel girder is removed from the World Trade Center site.

2011: Malta votes to legalize divorce under certain conditions. Hey, it’s a start . . .

2017: Former F1 driver Sato Takuma wins the Indianapolis 500, becoming the first Japanese and Asian driver to do so. Banzai!

Comings and goings:

Birthdays: Joseph-Ignace Guillotin, William Pitt the Younger, Louis Agassiz, Jim Thorpe, Ian Fleming, Barry Commoner, Zelda Rubinstein, Maeve Binchy, Gladys Knight, Sondra Locke, Patch Adams, John Fogerty, Zahi Hawass, Wendy O. Williams, Kylie Minogue.

Obituaries: Noah Webster, Anne Bronte, Audie Murphy, Herbert Jones, Eric Morecambe, Phil Hartman, Oleg G. Makarov, Gary Coleman, Maya Angelou.
