I saw Kubo in the theater and was amazed by everything about it. I did not know it was stop-motion animation, the actions seemed too fluid and natural for that. I thought it was CGI imitating stop-motion. You learn something every day.

Each week, we call out the 5 most horrendous ways news orgs are letting down the American public with their attempts to normalize Trump, and tilt the election for MAGA.

Our massive pressure campaigns to hold corporate media accountable are working. But, as these top major fails from this week prove, we can’t let up for a second.

NYT article mentioned down thread. Hopefully this works as a gifty link:

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/15/us/politics/georgia-voting-2024-election.html?unlocked_article_code=1.K04.CWy5.ywZRx3Z-HqAG&smid=url-share

This raises all sorts of concerns and problems for anyone who wants to fairly vote in Georgia. If you were reported do you file a change of address? Would that be considered "registering twice"?

This lady is filing so many of these reports there is a significant backlog. There would be no way for someone to verify their "status" because it is sitting in a document box in someone's office.

This is kind of a good example of what I think is the disadvantage of being people of integrity falling victim to those without. Of course the Dems would never organize something like this. Only noble suffering for us.

Lastly how tf can some lady see it her "right" to scrub the roles of the state of Georgia? How is their not having perfect registration adversely effecting her?

Is anyone here having trouble with Android voice recognition when texting? A couple of weeks ago my Samsung phone had an OS update, and since then voice recognition absolutely sucks. It used to recognize punctuation when I said things like "comma" or "question mark" but now it just types those as words in the text. And it no longer capitalizes my name, or any other word that would normally be capitalized, such as days of the week or names of months. Also, if I pause for ONE SECOND it stops recording and I have to press the "Press to talk" button. It used to work quite well, but now sending a text using my voice has become very time consuming and they are full of errors.

On the Iphone, there are allegedly settings for geezers to keep Siri from cutting you off if you aren't accomplished at speed mumbling. It might have a more dignified sounding name.

Please don't hate Skynet, it needs to learn how not to communicate, for when that's appropriate.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand now they're switching to claiming that the immigrants eating dogs are Bosnians.

And this leads to a (no pun intended) pet peeve of mine which I mention here from time to time- do they mean "Bosnian" or "Bosniak"? Because Bosnia, which obviously has experienced genocide in a lot of our lifetimes, is a majority Muslim country and Bosniaks is the term for Muslims from the country. It's important because there's already a virulent anti-Muslim racist streak in the GOP (especially with Loomer now on board) which this could be trying to capitalise on.

The October Surprise this year will be them unearthing Jonathan Swift's modest proposal and using it to bash the "IRISH Menace". ( that Hannibal Lecter thing is just a set-up for this "bombshell")

Added bonus: they will circulate a family tree showing Taylor Swift being a direct descendant of that famous Snark maestro and claim Taylor was "just kidding".

When many Bosnians settled in St. Louis back in the 90's and eventually began to buy homes in residential neighborhoods, there was a lot of fuss in the news about them smoking raw meat they had purchased in their garages or other outbuildings, because some of their neighbors apparently found the smell of the spices they used to be offensive. Meanwhile, one of my near neighbors let his dog poop in his fenced backyard every day, and never, ever picked any of it up, to the point that his next-door neighbors couldn't sit outside in their own back yards because of the smell and the flies that the massive amount of dog poop attracted. Frankly, I would rather smell spices than dog shit.

When I lived in a courtyard apartment building many years ago, the courtyard was full of small yew bushes and grass and a central circle where we could plant flowers. The landlord did not allow pets. Then the complex was sold to new owners who allowed pets, and instantly half of my neighbors got a dog and walked it in the courtyard where the dogs peed on all the bushes and grass and killed them, and the owners left the poop everywhere. Things got so bad I couldn't even open my living room windows during nice weather because of the smell of dog poop. I complained to the landlord, who did nothing, so I bought a house and moved, and I told the landlord WHY I was moving.

This is the same complex where I came home from work one day, opened my living room windows (before the dogs became a problem), and instantly smelled a strong smell of natural gas. Called the gas company. When they arrived they evacuated the building saying there was a massive leak that could cause an explosion. Every single one of my neighbors bitched about having to go outside while the gas company fixed the problem, and when I asked them why they hadn't reported the leak, they said things like "I smelled it but I didn't want to get involved" or "I smelled it but I didn't think it was important" or "I smelled it but didn't know what it was."

Let's face it ... a significant percentage of human beings are just stupid.

I hope this works. I have tinnitus and I have difficulty understanding conversation in loud environments. In crowded rooms like restaurants, the people several feet away from me are louder than the people next to me, and often I don’t understand most of the words or mishear them. But I demoed a set of top-of-the-line hearing aids five years ago, tailored to my hearing profile, and while I heard music better they did nothing for my speech comprehension in loud environments.

I just wrote a very sizeable check for a pair of AI enhanced Starkey hearing aids. I won't get them for two weeks. I'm cautiously optimistic that they'll help, but I've had hearing loss since I was a kid and got scarlet fever. Nothing can fix tinnitus short of cochlear implants, and from what I've heard they don't sound natural.

The Widex pair I had were very nice and lasted 8 years. I wanted to save some money with the next set and went with Costco's Philips offering. It's got a "speech-in-noise" setting that effectively compresses most bands except the main speech bands. Not perfect but very helpful in a loud restaurant or crowd. They don't have the overall quality of sound of the Widex brand, but one can get used to any set of speakers given a known reference. Like, does a piano sound like a piano to me? If not, I get the audiologist to re-tweak the bands.
