Supreme Court doing a great job of helping to elect Trump. So non-partisan, much wisdom!

When does SCOTUS drop their next load, tomorrow or Tuesday?

(Of course they probably already have the Trump "immunity" ruling done and in a drawer somewhere but they are holding it to the end . . . so they can leave town the same day.)

They "don't want the courts to affect the preznut race." Even if it means a convicted felon could win ... as long as it is their convict. See how that works?

I saw a poll last night that gave Trump a 56% chance of winning. Thankfully, this was followed up by an interview with Professor Allen Lichtman, who has correctly predicted the outcome of almost every recent election.

He was on TV a lot during the 2020 election cycle, and correctly predicted Biden would win. He says that polling is not terribly helpful, and points to his own system, which appears to be highly accurate. He has written a book about it, which I am not quite interested enough to read.

However, suffice it to say, for Biden to lose, six of thirteen things will have to go wrong between now and November. As of now, only two have gone wrong, such as "lack of incumbent charisma." Nothing anybody can do about that one.

Professor Lichtman pointed out some scenarios where six things could go wrong, such as: RFK getting 10% support, or more; or Biden having a huge foreign-policy disaster.

Professor Lichtman is usually right and I am praying he's right this time, because the polls are driving me nuts. Even though the polls only gave Trump a 15% chance of winning in 2016.

It's too early to take polls seriously. At this time in previous elections, McCain had a huge lead over Obama; Gore had a huge lead over Dubya. And look what happened. ๐Ÿ’œ

As much as I fear it, I know Trump has a VERY good chance of winning.

"lack of incumbent charisma" I really must be old because I find Joe comes across as competently charming. To me there is nothing less charismatic than a moron.

Hippo Heaven's avatar

I personally find Biden charming and Trump repellent. But I guess Biden is not universally regarded as charismatic. I am trying to remember Professor Lichtman's analysis of the 2020 situation, and I believe that Trump DID have "incumbent charisma" going for him, according to the professor. So I guess I don't exactly understand it.

How it is that a President who's keeping himself trim at 80, drives a vintage 'vette, and wears *aviators* is lacking charisma I can't underst-

oh, wait, yes I can. It's because US media is either 1) beholden to oligarchs or 2) a conduit for foreign troll farms, both of which desperately want Trump to win.

Just dropping in to say that Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Roberts each only have two kids. (Not even touching on Thomas here.) Only ACB can at least claim to have walked the walk.

I haven't been able to watch any televised soccer matches since ... maybe sometime last summer? We spend our weekends driving our kids around to all of their in-person soccer games, and that can be 6-8 games/weekend.

Getting to watch some Euro Cup is so awesome.

I miss kid sports and also don't. Son did diving around pandemic times and the anxiety of watching dives plus COVID plus insanely humid. I wish he'd kept up with crew.

My son had this fearless calm way of evaluating complex situations on the soccer field and then later in football. He was compact and light on his feet, but it was that utter calm that would come over him that was his superpower, like he had a crystal ball that allowed him to see how everything was going to play out, and what he should do when it did. When I would see him just standing there watching, I would think, OK, here we go. And it was like no one else in the whole place could see it, would know what was about to happen, and I would wonder how they could not know.

And then he would manage to be in exactly the right place and then he would have the ball and no one would have anticipated that. They would react, too little, too late, and he would take off and run that ball with a bunch of bigger kids streaming out behind him and it was magic.

Iโ€™m glad I got to see that. My kids were the poor kids in the rich kidsโ€™ school, but that kid held his own. They both did, in their own way.

I was a diver in high school! My Mom hated it. I could always hear her breath catch mid-dive.

At the time, we had a shitty-ass pool and it was not humid - it was so cold. They built a new natatorium after I graduated. At least there was no snow or rain in the pool area?

susanne's avatar

I was momentarily forgetting about the big kid's Nordic years. That was rough. Now she plays rugby for fun, but consistently gets injured in a non brain way the first match which suits me fine.

The only rule I have with the kids is to stay safe. Can I have that one thing?

Now that random mass shootings barely get a mention in America any more, it's worth remembering that in 2017, one of the first things the PAB did was rescind Obama rules on the mentally ill owning guns. They tried to bury this story because deep down, even maga can be ashamed of themselves. Just barely.

Thereโ€™s not even a ban on people on terrorist lists getting a gun. Osama bin Laden could have walked in anywhere and bought a gun, as long as he has the money
