'What I'm saying is, back when we first met, you were all like "Oh phooey, I burned the darn muffins." Now, you go into a bar, ten minutes later, sailors come runnin' out. What up with that?'
I woke up a little while ago, but before that I'm pretty sure I was dehydrated. While I was sleeping earlier, I kept dreaming that I was thirsty. In the dream I was also trying to figure out the floor plan of a building I was in, but that's normal. But 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘺? I don't remember ever dreaming that before. I woke up around then and felt a little dry, so I went downstairs and drank a 12 ounce can of plain fizzy water and went back to bed. Now I'm concerned I'm getting diabetes, never had it before, but I'm a hypochondriac so I'm not sure.
Did you have pizza last night? That’ll do it. I keep a bottle of water on my nightstand because I’m sort on an insomniac and can get thirsty depending on what I had for din-din.
since the several surgeries, hubby gets very dry mouth and keeps water on his night stand now (I got him a cat proof cup. It's got a sippy lid that closes. TAKE THAT, gatos). Could you do similar maybe?
I went to a dinner party last night organized by a gay couple I know that included around 15 of their gay friends. Outside of the gay couple, I only knew a few people there.
There was some talk about current politics and the general tone seemed to be that everyone was ready for the current mess to be over, with some of the guys there who don't regularly follow politics really revved up to vote in 2026 for anyone with a pulse and a "D" next to their name.
Another curious thing ... I hadn't been to a gathering like this in a few years and I heard a lot of talk about a mistrust of social media, smart devices, and dating apps, with more guys working through friends and personal networks for dating and meeting people. Five years ago, if I went to a gathering like this, guys were on their phone exchanging social media links, but not this time.
The problem is that in their current rat-fucking attack, republicons are running as Democrats. Fortunately, they are generally dumb and easy to spot as in the aptly named George 𝐂𝐨𝐧way but you still have to watch out.
For those of us of a certain age, one of Brigitte Bardot's more memorable appearances in the culture was a reference in Elton John's "I Think I'm Going to Kill Myself," a record that is surprisingly upbeat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POD9Hq0EqXA
Now that movie night is over, I will tell you why I like that movie so much. Warning: Spoilers ahead.
Blowing up the bridge to Canada (the Peace Bridge?). Some of my post-9/11 career in transportation was spent calculating the economic damage of any major infrastructure being put out of commission through terrorism. It's big, enormous, more than you'd think. But having driven over that bridge countless times, I confess I feel a small amount of perverse pleasure in the notion of blowing it up.
My favorite line - and this may be controversial. They're breaking out of the compound, the daughter is hiding under the truck, and Charlie tells Mitch there's an armed guard somewhere there. Mitch says to her "Well, kill him for me, bitch, what are you good for?" as casually as asking her to make him a sammich.
Mr S just read the worst Dad joke in the entire history of jokes going back to when we started speaking. The patron Saint of copying people on an email is Saint Francis of a cc.
does remind me of an old school yard joke. Something about why did St. Francis punch out the pope (I think it was the pope). Because he called him Asissi!
It is starting rainy today. Late tonight strong winds come in. Tomorrow through Wednesday we are getting up to 6 inches of snow. Then Thursday is a really good chance of heavy lake effect snow. After a break for most of last week looks like winter is back.
Yeah, we have freezing rain/ice coming today, about 5pm. Should put a crust on the snow from yesterday...and they have not yet plowed the lot here. Gonna be interesting.
a is a no win, sad to say. We'd like it, but the press would do what they did with defund the cops and make it about lawn order which scares the hell out of suburbanites. Reform ICE would work better for that, and the press could not claim we were against Making America Safe (though, they will try anyway).
I say station them all on the b order with Mexico. One ice agent every 60 feet. A hominid wall! They can get a personal porta potty, a pup tent and MREs. Four days on, three days 0ff.
I don't think "reform" is quite the right word. It sounds too "soft", like ICE is an agency with some accounting problems or something.
I'm looking for something like "accountability", but that's not quite it either. The idea to convey is that the agency has been a) filled with unqualified thugs, b) has become "rogue" and isn't following the rule of law, c) needs to be held accountable for wholesale kidnapping of US citizens, and d) needs to be investigated for detainees that have disappeared.
Better terminology. But I believe that "ICE" has become the equivalent of Stasi or Gestapo even to the most cultish American. When you're picking up moms and nanas off the street ...
100% and they need to go. But we do need border patrol.
I've an idea. Let's reform it, we could call it, idk, border patrol, with about the same weight as a park ranger, since border jumping is a civil thing not a criminal one
This is always controversial. Support for a long standing ally but at a huge human cost. Reporting from Al Jazeera ... but even with that, this is not anything America should be involved in.
Israel? Ally? Wouldn't that imply that the relationship is two sided? Nah Israel is only in it for itself. Not for the world. Not for the "West" or "Western Civilization". Not for its region or its "allies". Israel is out for its own survival and prosperity and will betray any country, historically including this one, to do so. Not an ally. A lodestone.
Nothing new, that have been using collective punishment for decades. The prisoners released in the exchanges? Relatives of suspects, never charged never mind tried.
And another "privilege" that will be removed. While this is a horror show, all this fuckery has shown where the loopholes are in the governing documents of our democratic republic.

I did get hungry earlier last night and had some bread with mayo, hummus and vegan cheese. That might have done it.

Inspired by the non comment below:
“Deport Stephen Miller To Hell” a film by Quentin Tarantino. Starring Steve Buscemi, Uma Thurman, Samuel L Jackson and Javier Bardem.
Lots of lingering close-ups of the cloven hooves of the Maga women.
and Andy Serkis, reprising his role as Gollum, as Stephen Miller.
I don't think Serkis would take that role.
AI poster for this might be really good.
No sequels please.
Oh no, many sequels. Just fill in the blank.
Steve Bannon, condemned to wearing a new shirt every day. Not just the one, but the additional one.

I liked the short fillum, Ziggywiggy!
At first I didn't know where it was going but then it hits just right.
Mr S just read the worst Dad joke in the entire history of jokes going back to when we started speaking. The patron Saint of copying people on an email is Saint Francis of a cc.
DAAA-AA-AAAD! I loved that. Maybe because my dad died in 1968.

From my third grade Catholic school yard (1963):
What's the Pope's phone number?
Etcumspiri 220.
snork, had to google that XD Going waaay back both pre vatican and when phone numbers had letters
Is that like a Holy Cubic Centimeter?
Harley Cubic Cenitmeter.

Does Harry have enough shnackies? And is Daisy OK?
Yes he does. Someone sent us a bag of dried fishies yesterday.
We haven't seen Daisy in forever.
Oh noez! Poor unrequited Harry!

Quick, get to the liquor store while you can… Canadians survive that way.
We're getting a blizzard today. I hate blowing snow in 20mph winds.
Just heard on MPR 55mph wind gusts. Sigh.
Yeah, that is pretty much a blizzard. Anything that stands up will have a drift as high as it is tall on the down wind side.
Best "On Day One" promise Democrats for Congress could make before mid-terms:
a) Defund ICE
b) Deport Stephen Miller to Hell
c) Impeach the motherfucker

Let's start with a warrant on their devices and a preventative raid on the premises by the marshals and the FBI to preserve evidence
Reckoning. And get rid of DHS entirely.
Reform fits all of those though and could go, when they whine about dismantling it (and they will) well, we said we were gonna Re-form it
I think I just have a problem with the word "reform" - again, it sounds too soft.
"Accountability" is more in line with what it would actually be, but that's not quite the short, sloganeering word that works.
Maybe 'Replace?'
ohhh I like replace
"Rectify" ICE? "Debug" ICE? "Shape Up" ICE? I kinda like that last one, since ICE is the most out-of-shape LEO agency I've ever seen.
yes, "Accountability Ice" sounds like a christian rapper
Fuck the press.
Evergreen.

Most ICE agents have 2 or 3 times the weight of a park ranger.
I will recommend naming a star in the firmament after the person/people who created this caffeinated edible...
