I had to catch up on a few episodes but I have to say, you guys have brought the melodrama from simmer to boil. However, although the disappearance of Dr. Fields is a throw-away in the confrontation of Lorinda with Stark, it sends chills down this old doc’s spine to think what states like Texas want to do to physicians who practice medicine the Republican fascists don’t approve of.

I'm pretty sure the sign over the entry to Little Harlem did not say

"Failed to render LaTeX expression — no expression found."

Could someone whose computer can render it tell me what should have been there?

I'm really curious whether the mandatory carry law applies to residents of Little Harlem. Somehow, I suspect they have an exemption.

Jesus, we've got to prevent this from actually happening here. And work to empower people elsewhere to free themselves from this hell. Because this is not far removed from things that have actually happened.

Ooof. Yeah, this one hit hard. Trapped is the perfect description for living and loving under patriarchy. One wrong move, and you're done for.

I really like this story, but it gets more horrifying every week. I just don't know where it's leading to....

It shadows divisive, dangerous, already existing rifts rendering empowerment of a new confederacy in the US. Aspects of it are already too terrifyingly tangible and it scares the hell out of me.

Exactly - and just as I don't know where the story is going, I'm really worried about where our country is going. Even without a "new Confederacy", PAB and the MAGAts are really desiring authoritarian control.

BTW - have you seen PAB's comments to the NRA ( I'm hoping Evan, et al., will write a piece about this ):

Do white hipsters go to Little Harlem for the vibe and to impress their friends with their familiarity with jazz and blues? Is there a culture that feeds the mainstream society from the outside? Do the Black residents ever leave? I want to know more about how this section of town works with the rest of it.

There goes Steve and Ellis, making me hold my breath until the end of the chapter again! Now I'm scared for Lorinda, for Crystal, the whole of Little Harlem, even BRAD, for fuck's sake. What a horrible place, and even more horrible that we might actually be seeing this kind of scenario play out if TFG and his Christian Nationalist Army get their way...

I prefer to grudgingly don proper clothing, lace up my boots, motor south to my preferred adult entertainment vendor and make any such purchases in person, preferably paying in cash.

It not only preserves my online privacy but allows me to do a bit of...window shopping, as it were.

There are some fascinating items on the shelves in those shops. You become more than a little obsessed with intimately investigating how a variety of them function.

For science. [nods profoundly]

There is enough of an ideological split occurring in the US at this time to make aspects of this fictional tale all too real. The fact of the matter is that if fascist forces overwhelm the current democratically inclined majority a "new" confederacy will establish itself and such an insidious split will become a tangible, tragic reality.

At least I have NO doubts about which side I stand on.
