Market pundits mostly shrugged off Fitch's recent downgrade of U.S. debt. Fitch, one of the three primary rating services, downgraded U.S. credit ratings to AA+ from its highest rating of AAA, citing two decades of poor financial decision-making and political dysfunction as significant factors contributing to the downgrade. Only Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden, Luxembourg, Singapore and Australia are awarded Fitch's AAA rating. Interestingly, "beer-drinking" European countries tend to have higher ratings overseas, while "wine-drinking" countries like France, Spain and Italy lag.
And the morons in the house who dropped the last bundle of straw will shout that it's all the Democrats' fault, all the while indulging in the political dysfunction that contributed to the downgrade.
I'm wondering if the police chief cooked the whole thing up, and used the restaurant owner's troubles as an excuse to raid the newspaper and the home of the owner. What he really wanted was to keep the newspaper from investigating why he left the Kansas CIty police department.
From what I've seen it's even worse, they actually admitted in public that the reason for the raid was they were sure the paper was about to print an inflammatory story. So they did it over thought crimes.
Yeah, no. Casey could be a little more left for my taste, but he isn't bad and he's got my vote. Some of the right wing nutters I know here don't like him, but they can't say why, so I suppose Fox has defamed him occasionally.
His first task upon taking office will be to improve the quality of crudités in Pennsylvania to something approaching that of the crudités in Connecticut. Some say it is impossible but Davy boy is up to the challenge.
Peter Navarro responds to McCarthy's latest statement that the US needs to restrict Chinese investments in the US.
“This asshole singlehandedly nixed a bill when I was in the White House that would have prevented Communist China from building our rail and subway systems because he had a China bus plant in his district. HYPOCRITE BLOWDRIED CCP B*TCH,”
also and it might be my brain is just not switched to the on position, but precisely what does "building our rail and subway (which are on rails) system" got to do with stopping investments?
It's 62 degrees! this morning and in a few hours will be taking the kayak to a nearby creek to mark elderberry plants for harvesting cuttings early next spring. One of the plants had huge umbels of fruit that were too big to easily put into a 5 gallon bucket without cramming them in.
I make jelly and some people make wine, bad thing about the wine is it has to age for years before it's drinkable. Made jelly a few days ago and of course it didn't jell so I need to readjust the recipe to fix it, what a PITA.
Had a cold front move in overnight and the low tonight will be around 55, however back to seasonal by the weekend. Gotta take it while we get it I guess.
lol in this one it would be ol Sid I would not trust. Alito is a bit of a surprise, but Scalise and McCarthy have angered the MAGA and while I'd love to believe they were totally in on it, I doubt it
BTW, nobody is getting any rides in that MiG-23 I mentioned the other day. From the video, it looks like some aircrew did not approve of the aircraft's performance.
I knew one Naval aviator who had ejected. He was B/N on an A-6, which had trouble on taking off from an air base. It started rolling as soon as they got airborne. His back injury ruined him for flight.
I knew a Marine who punched out when his jet over-rotated (think it was an A-4) and got no chute and lived to tell the tale. Apparently the ejection seat had about the same speed as the jet (~140 knots) but to the rear, and he plopped on the runway. He was beat up pretty bad but managed to get back on flying status. Dude's last name was Luck.
Scary times today. I took my kid fishing and my parents joined us. After about an hour, Mom said she felt light-headed, and walked from the dock to the parking lot. Dad and I started packing up to leave. When I got to the parking lot, Mom was semi-conscious, half-in/half-out of their vehicle. We got her into the vehicle, got some cool towels and whatnot on her neck, under her arms, etc., and within 15 minutes or so (by the time she was home) she was ambulatory.

citing two decades of poor financial decision-making and political dysfunction
Once again, why NOW? Why not two decades ago? Or a decade ago? Or five years ago?
edit: and why only "two decades"? Bush the lesser goes back further than that and did somemondo disasterous financial decision making
So that the weight of blame for 2008 can fall on Obama.
Tuesday, November 4, 1980, Reagan's election day is when it started in my frame of reference. Ya gotta start somewhere.
He fucked up the country for half of his time in office. Half of Obama's too.
And as Yogi said, "The third half was nothing to write home about either."

Everyone knows when the neighbors cough
They roll up the streets when the sun goes down

I'm a midnight girl in a sunset town
I've seen places on the TV where they stay up all night long
Around here it's early to bed and they rise before the dawn
They say the old ways are still the best, I cannot deny it
But I can't get no rest cause it's just too quiet

True. I suspect that the police chief didn't cotton to the local newspaper looking too closely at his admittedly shady past doings.
From what I've seen it's even worse, they actually admitted in public that the reason for the raid was they were sure the paper was about to print an inflammatory story. So they did it over thought crimes.
Oh, here's my source, who has his own sources:

Definitely. There's more to this story than what's written. Who is the judge? What are they caught up in, also too?
All kinds of ugly things scurrying around when you peel back the veneer.
Magistrate iirc.
Might be just old fashioned good ol boyism. Or girlism in her case.
Which would indicate they're all as straight laced as a cork screw
Popehat Ken White made sure to push it up
CNN, NYTimes, WaPo, Guardian, are all over this. I'm waiting for a DOJ announcement now.
Yeah. Hang the judge, the cops and the drunk-driving restaurant owner out to dry FFS.
heh
Something tells me that restaurant owner would flip flip flip like a pancake

But what is his position on the affordability of crudités?
Better crudite is available in Conneticut.

Jealous
That's about what it is here in the upside down. We don't have elderberries here. Will you make cordial?
What do you do with them? We have tons and tons that grow wild here and I’m always tempted to pick the berries but I’m not sure what I’d use them for.
Add one teaspoon of arsenic, half a teaspoon of strychnine, and just a pinch of cyanide.
My understanding is that the raw berries do indeed contain toxic substances, so you’ve gotta cook em. Unless you are a wicked stepmother.
I'd like to help you out, but everything I know about elderberries, and the wine derived therefrom, comes from Arsenic & Old Lace.
I used to make jelly and syrup with the berries and fritters with the blossoms.
Now I have a craving for fritters. Thanks, I think.
Me too damnit. And where I used to get Elderberries doesn't
have them anymore. There was a great spot in the river bottom
around ASU...but it also was a place that had a lot of unhoused.
The city went in and just ....well.
*Edit that last wee bit.

Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries...
Now I have a craving for boysenberries. Thanks, I think.
Do they smell like your father?
79 feels like 83 outside right now. Did my morning walk a half hour ago, and the air was soupy.
I gotta work in this.
I wonder how obvious it would be if I called out sick again XD
Unfortunately, tomorrow looks just as great.
Now we know where the French soldiers got their insult from ...
62 sounds like heaven. It's 73 here, and will get up to the high 90s, but we may get some rain this afternoon and some relief.

Nope.
The old suffer the most.
The small and young next.
Heat kills. Death rates rise when temperatures rise above 36°C or so.
No, it's not.
