Watching a clip of PAB on MSNBC and whoo boy, people 100 years from now are not going to understand how this ridiculous looking and whiny voiced man ever got into a position of power.

People 100 years from now will be too busy shanking each other for a jamjar full of murky water to care about some glowing fuckyam.

You have a lovely way with words and I mean that in a good way. Very evocative.

On the phone with my 85 year old ma yesterday:

Her: "But Janet Yellen Bowed to that Chinese Communist! John Kerry took his private jet to the climate meeting! Joe Biden! Who's really in charge?"

Me: "Ma. If I wanted to hear that garbage spin on things, I'd watch Fox news. I don't watch Fox news. [ETA I pay 'Trix & co to watch for me!] I love you. Let's talk about art or the theater."

"Woke" is the ideological equivalent of "the boogie man."

"What did you see, honey?"

"I don't know, but it was scary! Waaah!"

Jonathan Lemire standing in for Joe and Mika this AM, on Morning Joe. And Joke-O-Vitch loses in Wimbledon final. A good morning.

(I know little and follow little of tennis. But I do hate. I hate asshole antivaxxers. How's your losing RNA, Joke-O?)

What's that you say about crop rot and disease and loss of indigenous ecology?

At some point in the future, I promise you, RFK will take credit for re-electing Biden.

I'm OK with him running. It's a handy distraction, and he is sucking up wingnut money like a sponge. That's money not going to any viable Republican.

I doubt he will get on the ballot, but if he does I think he'd steal more Republican votes.

JustPixelz's avatar

That is so out of character for the Ratpublican Party.

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

I am curious at what point the main press goes "Hey, this guy is not actually supported by actual Democrats"

I mean....

Bobathonic, Dingus Crusher's avatar

I believe tradition requires that to be for the book release, and too late to matter.

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

Prediction:

Biden wins the nom, and The Press go on and on and on about Dissatisfied Kennedy Voters switching To Republican

Here's the latest Russo-Ukrainian War assessment. The article leads off with accounts of Russian commanders getting dismissed from their posts or arrested, and there are indications that insubordination and defeatism may be spreading.

Meanwhile, AFU methodically grinds away at their defensive lines and logistics hubs. DKos's update yesterday said one of their biggest hubs, outside of Luhansk, just went kablooey.

Sure would be a shame if the RF army collapsed into disorder just as AFU breaches the lines.

Really bananas that fucking Russia, with all its resources and comparative wealth is struggling with this.

The Wanderer's avatar

"Comparative" wealth. You've put your finger on it. The place stretches over 11 time zones, has half the population of the US, and their economy's about equal to California's (probably due to widespread corruption and inefficiency).

52camellias's avatar

"Gas station masquerading as a country", to quote Sen. John McCain and ha, they wish they had an economy as big as California's, the 5th largest in the world. And now they have a much smaller army and the traffic at the gas station has gone way down.

Russia is the living example of what happens when you decide that you don't care about politics and they are all the same and I just want to go back to ignoring all this so there is less stress in my life.

There's been another Ukrainian attack on the Kerch Bridge, this time nearly dropping one two-lane segment into the strait and damaging the neighboring bit of the span. Russia has suspended the humanitarian grain deal which had allowed Ukraine to ship out of Odesa.

ExecutorElassus's avatar

best of luck to the Russian Navy starting a firefight with the Turkish escorts.

The Wanderer's avatar

Yeah, I don't think Russia wants to widen the conflict. The Turks might not appreciate it.

UncleTravelingMatt's avatar

Lies! The Kerch Bridge is built like a T-55. Practically indestructible.

The Wanderer's avatar

It *is* pretty sturdy. Ukraine should have been able to drop both the road and rail spans.

theCryptofishist's avatar

It's as good a theory as any. And something else for me ot get used to on the new platform.

Crip Dyke's avatar

I honestly think that it's just taking some time for people to migrate.

People read something but think that they don't want to open up a commenting account right now b/c whatever. But as time goes on and more people find their moment to finish the sign up, we'll have more commenters and thus fewer late night gaps.

I figure it will be anything from a week to a month before things smooth out with commenting rates near but not quite at the old commenting rates.

From there, as long as Wonkette stays healthy, we should see gradual but real growth.

Remember that every website experiences turnover in commenters. When you have a big transition like this, you'll lose some, BUT the group you lose will include a disproportionate number of people who were on the verge of drifting away naturally.

Thus a month from now we'll have a smaller % of people that are near the end of their commenting run, so natural growth will occur, but natural attrition will be disrupted.

Over time we'll thus pick up more people slowly until eventually we've been on sub stack long enough that we've developed a balance again between people on the edge of drifting away and people reading the comments and on the edge of diving into the community.

Have faith! It's gonna be a rocky bit, and it will take time before we are back where we were, but Trix willing and the crick don't rise, things will reach a good state soon enough.
