Poor Old Lisa Murkowski Instantly Regrets Her Blunt Amendment Vote

Independent Republican write-in Sen. Lisa Murkowski spent all weekend getting hollered at by ladies in Alaska over her "yes" vote onlast week's failed Blunt amendment, which would've let any employer exclude contraception from its health plan offerings if scary vagina pills offended their pwecious moral or religious fee-fees. Wasn't Lisa Murkowski supposed to be one of those moderate social issue Republicans, with a penchant for pissing off fellow Republicans on such issues, and therefore she obviously shouldn't have voted for this? Oops yeah, I guess I screwed that up, Murkowski is now saying.

Murkowski went to the start of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race this weekend, the Anchorage Daily News' Julia O'Malley writes, where "the senator kept running into female voters who wrote in her name in the last election -- moderate women who did not always vote Democrat or Republican." They all gave her crap for her Blunt amendment vote. Later, in an interview, Murkowski admitted she screwed up the big important vote held a few days earlier:

We talked for 45 minutes. What Murkowski told me I already suspected. She's a moderate. She supports abortion rights and contraception coverage. She also doesn't line up completely with the Catholic Church when it comes to birth control. She regretted her recent vote.

"I have never had a vote I've taken where I have felt that I let down more people that believed in me," she said.

"If you had it to do over again, having had the weekend that you had with women being upset about the vote, do you think you would have voted the same?" I asked.

"No," she said.

Forgive her, Wonketteers. She can make it up by voting for the Abortionplex.
