Sorry, D.C., No Vote For You In Congress, Again
The world's least favorite capital city got another kick in the mouth this afternoon as the Senate killed the latest D.C. Vote Bill. Republicans managed to keep it from getting the 60 votes necessary to "begin action" on the thing, so once again the District won't have a voting member in Congress. This bill has apparently gone further than any D.C. Vote bill in three decades, but the White House and the GOP leadership are steadfastly against letting black people have representation in the federal government. Republicans praised the defeat as "a step in the right direction" and announced new legislation that would remove congressional representation from other urban areas, which frequently are home to blacks and other minorities.
