South of the Border, Down Delaware Way ...
Do you have Biden '08 fever yet? He sure does. And he's not at all worried about wooing voters in the South.
Jabberin' Joe appeared on Fox News Sunday and amused all 73 viewers when he gave his southern-fried bonafides:
"You don't know my state. My state was a slave state. My state is a border state. My state has the eighth-largest black population in the country. My state is anything from a Northeast liberal state."
Conservatives -- the only people who pay any attention to Biden -- were quick to mock his claim that Delaware was a slave state. But then one of them found an encyclopedia or something and learned that Delaware really was a proud member of the "abducted Africans as forced laborers" club.
We were more intrigued by Biden's claims that his tiny little New Jersey neighbor was a "border state." Border of what, exactly? Is he trying to pull a fast one on Latino voters?
No, he's just going on about the Civil War, again. During that nightmare, the slave states between the North and South were called "border states."
Other not-so-fun facts about the leetle bitty state:
* It was once called "New Sweden," because of its robust pornography industry.
* The governor's mansion is haunted by "a man with an old-time powdered wig who seems to like vintage wines [possibly Christopher Hitchens], a small female child, and a slave who was accidentally hung when he got caught in the branches of an old poplar tree in the yard." See? Slaves!
* Even if you've never heard of Biden, the Fortune 500 companies that actually run America sure know Joe! Some 700,000 corporations are "based" in Delaware, "including more than half of all U.S. publicly traded companies, and 60% of the Fortune 500."
