The 174 Sh*ttiest Things Conservatives Have Said About The New Zealand Mosque Shooting SO FAR
Another sad day for the world, as Muslim worshippers in New Zealand have been murdered and terrorized in a way that feels all too familiar for Americans. We could spend a thousand hours talking about the online culture that radicalizes white supremacist terrorists, how it's spreading worldwide, and how the anti-immigrant/anti-Islamic hatred that motivated the killer in New Zealand is much the same as the hatred spread by the types of people in America who say there were many fine people on both sides in Charlottesville.
But other writers will do that, some of them at Wonkette. In this post, let's just look at some of the immediate terrible reactions, because "how are right-wing assholes responding" is kind of one of our traditions when there is a hate-fueled massacre.
Let's start with just fucking gross and weird, from one of the American congressmen who specializes in both gross and weird, Louie Gohmert of Texas.
"The shootings at the New Zealand mosques are egregiously reprehensible. There are courts, dispute resolutions, and… https://t.co/EtYY0VkaCB— Louie Gohmert (@Louie Gohmert)1552655164.0
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait, Gohmert's big problem here is that "cold blooded murders" is not a good tactic for resolving the very real and important "controversies" that white supremacists feel they need "resolved"? Fuck you with the plunger you wear on top of your head, Louie Gohmert, at least in that one Wonkette photoshop just above.
Another person who can go fuck himself is this Fox News analyst, the very creepy right-wing asshole Walid Phares, whom Fox likes to bring on so they can have somebody say terrible hateful things with a Middle Eastern accent. He says it's "very understandable" what the murderer was trying to do politically, but y'know, it's just super bad when people translate political hate into action. He also says there is very bad terrorism from "all sides," because AYUP.

Other Republicans are trying their best to not really try their best while still making it look like they're trying their best. Over on "Fox & Friends," GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger attempted to say something normal about how this mass murder is awful, and even worse that the terrorist committed his murders upon people praying, but then it got weird when co-host Brian Kilmeade upchucked out that ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ SAYS WE'RE NOT ALLOWED TO SAY THOUGHTS 'N' PRAYERS, and Kinzinger agreed that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is just a total bitch, and when AOC said that, Kinzinger decided he was going to thoughts 'n' prayers DOUBLE MUCH, because AOC is not his real dad.
On Fox & Friends, Rep. Adam Kinzinger insists that "thoughts and prayers are impactful." https://t.co/wJDNMkn6zA— Bobby Lewis (@Bobby Lewis)1552650759.0
BRIAN KILMEADE (CO-HOST): AOC says don't say thoughts and prayers.
KINZINGER: I know. You know what, when she says that -- when I saw that, it just doubled down my determination to tell people to do that. Prayer means something and faith means something. And I think even though we may all have different faiths, let's all stand together at this moment.
When Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is factoring into your reasoning about how to feel about 49 Muslim worshippers being murdered during Friday prayers, you have issues.
Media Matters has collected much more from Fox News this morning, like the guy who used the massacre as an excuse to bellyache about Facebook supposedly censoring conservatives. It's just really great stuff.
Up there at the White House, Sarah Huckabee Sanders is #resisting the tyranny of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in a statement that sends thoughts 'n' prayers, but doesn't mention anything like anti-Muslim hatred, because come on, you guys, the Trump administration's target market doesn't like hearing that stuff.
“The United States strongly condemns the attack in Christchurch. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and… https://t.co/4E12pzN8C3— Sarah Sanders (@Sarah Sanders)1552659088.0
And of course, Donald Trump has his own thoughts 'n' prayers to share.
.....THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO A PRESIDENT AGAIN!— Donald J. Trump (@Donald J. Trump)1552658186.0
Just kidding, he is bellyaching about the Mueller investigation and Obama people investigating him (four tweets) and copy/pasting "Fox & Friends" about "Jexodus," the made-up movement of Jewish people who are both 1) leaving the Democratic Party and 2) don't know that Jewish people tend to refer to an "exodus" as, um, an "exodus" (one tweet), and yes, he also sent "warmest sympathies" and "best wishes" to New Zealand, but forgot to tell them to have a great summer.
My warmest sympathy and best wishes goes out to the people of New Zealand after the horrible massacre in the Mosque… https://t.co/aS3y2KQGCP— Donald J. Trump (@Donald J. Trump)1552650078.0
But perhaps the most WOW reaction of all came from a lawmaker from Australia, that bastion of multi-culturalism and harmony (WE KID!). His name is Fraser Anning, and he just went straight past thoughts 'n' prayers and right into blaming the Muslim victims for their murder, because Muslims are evil:
The real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place.
Let us be clear, while Muslims may have been the victims today, usually they are the perpetrators. World-wide, Muslims are killing people in the name of their faith on an industrial scale.
The entire religion of Islam is simply the violent ideology of a sixth century despot masquerading as a ...
OK, that's enough transcript.
What up, Jeanine Pirro! FOUND YOU A BOYFRIEND!
As we said, this little round-up is in no way exhaustive, and a hundred more well known rightwing assholes will add their awful voices to the conversation by the afternoon, and by evening, Tucker Carlson will be back to calling Muslims "semiliterate primitive monkeys" and issuing dire warnings about the upcoming genocide, of white people.
And yet these people wonder why we say they can shove their fake thoughts 'n' prayers up their asses. It is a mystery wrapped in a conundrum!
