The Madison Girls Have Met Their Match and The Matches Would Like to Not Be Seen with Them
We got a lot mail about The Hill's expose of The Madison, a.k.a. The Future First Wives' Club. Many of these emails referenced the photo that accompanied the article. They were unkind, to say the least, though a few were confessional, i.e.:
A ten years younger version of me would have high-tailed it to DC just to drunkenly shag one of these princesses in the vilest way, then written about it on the internet. . . But the sport-fucking guy that I used to be was overcome by conscience and his 30s. Lordy, someone needs to do it, though. I'll buy the DVD.
We'd wait for the book, ourselves. Seriously, these women have jobs as press secretaries? No wonder they're aiming for trophy wife status. Even the smug meatheads at the Capital Club, referred to in The Hill's piece as the Madison's "male equivalent" seem to realize that not all publicity is good publicity. Capital Club president Tripp Donnelly (so best) actually tried to counter-spin the story in an email he sent to a journalist who shall remain nameless:
Several of our members - especially those on the Hill - weren't delighted with the reference of the capital club in the article. Several members, especially former members of the cap club and Hill guys, do not want the Madison to be referenced as the female equivalent to the club. Hence, I did want to reach out to you about this.
He also appears to have confused his C-list organization with Skull and Bones: "[I]t's critical that we have final say in whatever goes into print or broadcast with the club's name. Member's names can be referenced, but the club can not."
None of this disproves that they are the "male equivalent" of the Madison -- if anything, it strengthens the case -- but we're happy to have an excuse to never mention them again.

xxxxxxxx-
Congratulations on the article and recent party. Let me preface what i'm about to say that I know it is and was all in good fun. I will say that my phone and email has been blasted this morning. Several of our members - especially those on the Hill - weren't delighted with the reference of the capital club in the article. Several members, especially former members of the cap club and Hill guys, do not want the Madison to be referenced as the female equivalent to the club. Hence, I did want to reach out to you about this. I know it may have come from one of our members at the party, but it's critical that we have final say in whatever goes into print or broadcast with the club's name. Member's names can be referenced, but the club can not. I know the piece was all in fun and I enjoyed it, but please let your board know - that we had some notable past members, present members and board members that weren't excited about the piece and want to nip the reference in the proverbial bud.
