As much as it sometimes seems to be the case, not all of the terrible men in the world are located here, in America. There are, indeed, garbage men all over! Including in the UK!
This week, we travel over to jolly old Britain, where on Friday, Parliament was all set to pass a bill that would have made "upskirting" -- the appalling practice of taking pictures up a woman's skirt -- a criminal offense with a prison sentence of up to two years. The bill was introduced by liberal Democrat lawmaker Wera Hobhouse following a campaign by a woman named Gina Martin after she was told by police that there were pretty much no charges she could press against the man who took an upskirt photo of her at a music festival. Why? Because she had been wearing underwear when he did it.
The bill was expected to pass, given the fact that this is a thing most people can agree is both appalling and criminal.
Alas, that did not happen, as two Tories, Shipley MP Philip Davies and Christchurch MP Sir Christopher Chope, worked together to make sure that the bill did not get a vote, because of a personal objection the two of them have to "private member's bills," which they claim are too politically correct. Whatever the hell that means.
On Friday, Davies filibustered the bill for several hours, talking about another bill involving mental patients, leaving only 9 minutes left to discuss and vote on the upskirt bill -- at which point Sir Christopher objected -- which was enough to push discussion and voting on the bill until July.
Chope is perhaps best known for having opposed the posthumous pardon of Alan Turing, who was convicted for being gay. He has also voted against these other private member's bills, all of which seem like things that no normal human person would be against.
- Safeguarding wild animals in circuses
- Protecting police dogs from being stabbed
- National standards for taxi licences
- Banning fraudulent wearing of medals
- Giving 6th formers better career advice
I've heard a lot of weird things in my time, but "No, we definitely need police dogs to be stabbed more often" is a new one on me. But I guess if you are the kind of person who doesn't think it should be a crime to shove your phone between a woman's legs and take a picture, that is just par for the course.
Naturally, a lot of geniuses have offered their support for MPs Davies and Chope on the Twitter machine.
Whilst this is totally unacceptable conduct, if women
assumed some responsibility for their attire, they would not be in jeopardy. Prosecutions will only utilise valuable police and CPS
resources that should be prioritised elsewhere. #upskirting https: //t.co/dkUGnIVCpV

Libertarians and anti-feminists up and down the country should be sending flowers to Christopher Chope and @PhilipDaviesUKas a charm protecting this country from being overwhelmed by the toxic social parasitism of a tsunami of sluts and feminazis. #upskirting #r4today https: //t.co/4V65tE11Bp

Please review the rules. We don't do "some horrible person in the news might get raped in prison, and that's just great and hilarious, hurr hurr" here. Because it's rape. And if you think the prospect of someone being raped is hilarious or a fine idea, you may want to rethink your assumptions on that point.
