Torture: Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, More Please?

USA Today reports on a poll gauging Americans' views on the use of torture. We're not sure if it's good or bad news that 82 percent of those polled believe that "Strapping prisoners on boards and forcing their heads underwater until they think they are drowning." Sure, 82 percent sounds good, but shouldn't it be even higher? We worry about that 18 percent. We worry that this poll is actually an Army recruitment questionaire. Eighty-five percent of those asked agreed that "Having female interrogators make physical contact with Muslim men during religious observances that prohibit such contact" is wrong, showing a sensitivity to other faiths that is heartening. Of course, 92 percent approved of such contact if they could get the video.
