When Speechwriters Attack
Jack Wheeler has taken umbrage at Peggy Noonan's jaundiced Reagan memorial recap, and accuses her of being a self-promoting Peggy-come-lately who "never wrote many major presidential speeches and had quite limited access to the president." Meee-ow! Wheeler is not above taking a page from Peg's own playbook, though, thoughtfully channelling Reagan's thoughts from beyond the grave: "Do you think that President Reagan would think more or less of you for writing what you did, Peggy? You know the answer. He would be ashamed of you." Yeah, but Peggy's sort of been counting him not remembering who she is.
