Woah: Fox & Friends Nearly (Accidentally?) Practiced a Tiny Smidgen of Journalism
Uh-oh, Chongo! The fearsome intellects of Fox & Friends are flirting with getting their mics torn off and stomped by their megalomaniac boss! In an interview Monday with Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Benghazi-Benghazi-Benghazi), the hosts actually asked questions that questioned some of the crazy stuff he was saying, leading ThinkProgress to lead us to the Bizarro-World declaration that "They've Lost Fox & Friends," where the "they" here is the Republican Party. We aren't entirely sure about that; after all, it was early on a Monday, perhaps before the amphetamines kicked in. The more likely explanation, however, is that Our Military Leaders are never wrong.
For Fox News, these are pretty close to tough questions:
BRIAN KILMEADE: Are you saying that Admiral Pickering and Mullen are complicit because they did the review board? Are you saying that the CIA is complicit because they allowed their talking points to be edited? … What about Admiral Mullen and Pickering? Why would they sacrifice their reputation for a report that isn’t accurate? [...]
STEVE DOOCY: Congressman, it sounds like what you’ve described, it sounds like there has been a cover-up, but what were they trying to cover up? [...]
GRETCHEN CARLSON: But Congressman, it’s an interesting question because it does involve so many high-level people. You had the former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta — who was revered by both sides of the fence — coming out and saying, ‘hey, we couldn’t have gotten anybody there.’ So you have him on the line. You have former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, President Obama, Admiral Mullen. Would all of these people go to bat just to get President Obama reelected?
KILMEADE: What about David Petraeus?
In any case, Chaffetz will investigate the very important questions of why Barack Obama didn't bend time and space to rescue the four Americans in Benghazi, since the attack there was the worst terrorist action to ever occur since Bill Clinton allowed the World Trade Center to be bombed in 1993. For a change of pace, Chaffetz is also expected to interrupt the hearings to vote to repeal Obamacare a couple more times.
ThinkProgress also notes that when Chaffetz went on Fox News Sunday to assert that the State Department was threatening witnesses who might testify in upcoming hearings, he was unable to give any actual examples of such threats. But you know that there were threats, because there was a Fox News story about them.
