Campus Conservatives Planning Awesome Fun 'Catch An Illegal' Game At U of Texas
With that special blend of enthusiasm, snotty self-righteousness, and utter disregard for tact that can only be mustered by douchebags in their early 20s, the Young Conservatives of Texas willhold a hilariously fun “Catch an Illegal Immigrant Game” at University of Texas at Austin. The festivities, planned for Wednesday, will involve club members walking around campus wearing signs reading "Illegal Immigrant." Any student who captures them can turn them in at the Young Conservatives' recruiting table for a bounty -- a $25 gift certificate. Not sure where that can be redeemed; maybe the online gift shop for Stormfront?
But don't worry, it's not "offensive!" According to a statement from the group's spokeman, Lorenzo Garcia, whose very name insulates the group from any charge of racism forever and ever, the game is actually intended to
"spark a campus-wide discussion about the issue of illegal immigration, and how it affects our everyday lives.”
Because if there's anything that everyday people can relate to in their everyday lives, it's smug conservadouches spouting talking points about how illegals are takin' our jerbs and getting a free ride, before rounding people up vigilante-style.
Also, too, the Texas Democratic party points out that until recently, Lorenzo Garcia had been a paid staffer for Greg Abbott's gubernatorial campaign. THAT IS JUST A COINCIDENCE WE ARE SURE. After all, the Abbott campaign said that it "has no affiliation with this repugnant effort," although Abbott does happen to be in favor of repealing Texas's Dream Act, because of course he is.
UT Austin has been the site of a number of protests by students who would have to pay out-of-state tuition if the Texas Dream Act were repealed, so it only makes sense to "promote dialogue" with a game where people are encouraged to go bounty-hunting for "illegals."
School officials said that if students violated the school's honor code, they could face disciplinary action, possibly including expulsion. VP for diversity Gregory Vincent said in a statement that, yes, the game is an exercise of free speech, but also that the Young Conservatives are
contributing to an environment of exclusion and disrespect among our students, faculty and staff by sending the message that certain students do not belong on our campus ... If the members of YCT carry out their plan ... they are willfully ignoring the honor code and contributing to the degradation of our campus culture.”
Well, duh. What good is a campus culture that treats wetbacks like they belong in college?
