They quickly discover that what they lightheartedly imagined to be a few minor upgrades are in fact massive expenses.
Ms. McArdle, these renovations and upgrades of buildings are part of the process of saving humanity. These are minor, but since we are long past the point where we can deal with this "lightfuckingheartedly" or inexpensively, we now have to do everything possible, and do it now.
The scientists weren't lighthearted but they weren't worried either, when they started telling us all this 20 years ago. They mostly thought that they would explain, and we would respond. Ha! We could have transitioned over a generation to solar and wind, demanded that all cars and trucks be electric by, say 2020, etc. But instead we've continued to make things worse. The survival of humanity is not guaranteed, and we have people like this complaining that dealing with it would be inconvenient and expensive. Really? You're putting a price on the heads of your grandchildren and your neighbor's and it's about the same as replacing your aluminum siding.
Scientists have been showing us this data for a generation, and the prevailing argument denying the coming events seems to be "Well, I've never experienced this, therefore it won't happen."
Fuck, sometimes I think we as a species deserve extinction. But the dolphins and the rhinos don't. [sigh] When I feel like that, sometimes I watch this:

Mine have always seemed to be ok. They did pretty much what they did at home. Sit and look out the window and sleep.

Maverick isn't wearing his seatbelt.
Most have arranged it so they do.
I always assumed cats would go crazy confined in a (relatively) small space like a truck cab. Good to see Maverick's taking it well.
Me, too!
