My father was chief of psychiatry at a large hospital for many years. He saw One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest and was quite emphatic in his disapproval. There is nothing funny about psycosis and other symptoms of mental disease.
As high-profile as this whole thing was, dropping the charges like they have certainly smells of the PD screwing up in a way that's pretty magnificent even by Chicago PD standards.
Remember how it looked like such a slam-dunk against Smollett a few weeks ago (those couple brothers whom Smollett allegedly hired to fake-attack him)? If there had been any truth to that, any whatsoever, prosecutors would have pursued it.
