Regarding the undesirability of Trumpers as love partners, I would honor Jeff Goldblum's line from Jurassic Park: "Life finds a way". Trumpism is apparently such a repugnant trait that Natural Selection means to work it out of our genome. Yay Darwin!

I am reasonably confident that Mueller would like, more than anything else, to bring solid, successful convictions that won't be overturned, even by the republican-friendly SCOTUS.

I don't think he's a Comey. I think he's careful, implacable, and very situational aware. It take A LOT of time to keep resetting dead man switches, given you can't trust the justice system itself isn't owned by donors, bigots, and anti-American politicians wrapped in the flag while they destroy what it stands for.

He was a conservative, but he was no Tea Party or Trump supporter.

On Trump: "I used to think Trump was an 11-year-old, an undeveloped schoolyard bully," he wrote in August 2016, around the time Trump officially became the Republican nominee. "I was off by about 10 years. His needs are more primitive, an infantile hunger for approval and praise, a craving that can never be satisfied. He lives in a cocoon of solipsism where the world outside himself has value — indeed exists — only insofar as it sustains and inflates him."

On Junior's Trump Hotel meeting: "Once you’ve said “I’m in,” it makes no difference that the meeting was a bust, that the intermediary brought no such goods. What matters is what Donald Jr. thought going into the meeting, as well as Jared Kushner and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort, who were forwarded the correspondence, invited to the meeting, and attended. ... There is no statute against helping a foreign hostile power meddle in an American election. What Donald Jr. — and Kushner and Manafort — did may not be criminal. But it is not merely stupid. It is also deeply wrong, a fundamental violation of any code of civic honor."

On chess: “…but at our club, when you lose with a blunder that instantly illuminates the virtues of assisted suicide, we have a cure. Rack 'em up again. Like pool. A new game, right away. We play fast, very fast, so that memories can be erased and defeats immediately avenged. I try to explain to friends that we do not sit in overstuffed chairs smoking pipes in five-hour games. We play like the vagrants in the park--at high speed with clocks ticking so that thinking more than 10 or 20 seconds can be a fatal extravagance. In speed (“blitz”') chess, you've got 5 or 10 minutes to play your entire game. Some Mondays we get in a dozen games each. No time to recriminate, let aloneruminate.”

Apparently, the Washington “Unite the Right” rally is going to be a joint effort of the Nazis and the incels, so every Trump staffer will have a reason to be there.
