Tankers were sitting full offshore because the storage tanks were full in Long Beach and Richmond

CA. The "Arab oil embargo" was a great scam by the consolidating petroleum industry to triple profits overnight, eliminate/ buy out independents, and push back against environmental regulations on drilling and refining and auto emissions. Pretty much the same playbook Enron pulled later. Fraud and greed in a "market" where the only thing "free" is corporate swindling.

Damn! That doesn't happen very often.

No, she didn't.

Despite Brown’s often-repeated claim during the campaign that Warren “checked the box claiming she was Native American,” documents obtained by the press show Warren did not claim to be a minority when applying for undergraduate admission to the University of Houston or to Rutgers University’s law school. According to the Washington Post, in papers related to her employment in the mid-’80s at the University of Texas, where Warren did groundbreaking research on bankruptcy, she describes herself as “white.”

This is a good thing. Cattlefolk especially in the US would fight shutting down or paying their share of cleanup costs for global warming, but if this vaccine works it will mitigate the problem significantly. Now if we could just do something about cattle using 20 times the resources of pork or chickens... (I don't know about sheep because I am a USian and we don't eat many of them, so I haven't paid attention.)

Actually, when gas went to $3/gallon here in Georgia some years ago, it was fantastical.* People were selling their gas guzzlers, I picked up a 2001 Ford Explorer that only got 18/mpg for $4000. Kelley Blue Book (KBB) had it listed for $6000. Even with spending $900 to fix the emission control system, I was ahead of the curve.* Fat people were walking. Not that there is anything wrong with being overweight, but it did happen.* I started paying attention to "Peak Oil" and looking at the predictions of what would happen at $4-$8/gallon. That's when I started a commitment to public transit. Now I only drive 300 miles/month or one 1 tank full.

I would approve of their attempt except most of them would just unload in their own neighborhood.

Perhaps if we explained to them that gunshots aren't effective against hurricanes unless they are met at the coast.

I remember 1978, when gas went from 30 cents to nearly $1/gallon because that was the year I got my learner's permit. I remember when it went to $1/gallon and the signs couldn't post it because Y2K (no dollar placement on signs).

That was my first thought. They might be civil to them at, say, a funeral, but they would not be likely to sit and chat with Trump, Reagan, or the Bushes. Probably Eisenhower and even Ford, though.
