Thanks--but I DO need to apologize. What I said was, I thought, funny--referencing myself ONLY. I look at it now, and it sucks. Your father's not happy with what's going on, obviously, and doesn't know exactly what it is he's looking for. Just like a LOT of us. He feels that he hasn't "declined," so that's the word he denies. I don't know how to help that, though--I wish I did.

I think I could deal with the situation much better if he wasn't in such denial about the situation, and constantly accusing me of not telling him things that I have told him both verbally and in email.

No need to apologize. I was just expressing my frustration at his inability to remember or learn anything new anymore (for at least 10 years), in spite of his insistence he hasn't declined mentally one bit.

Your father was one of the people who got computing off the ground, and he sure as HELL doesn't need to have ME deride him. I sure didn't mean anything like this, and when I speak of "old," I'm 65 myself and I apologize for my offhand comment. I'm thinking more of those who don't WANT to try anything they think of as "new," not someone who isn't comfortable with it all. Again, I am sorry, I didn't mean anything as snotty as it came out. I'll think five times next time before I speak.

Convincing an old person (my father) that he can access his email on his phone, after I set it up and put it dead center on the main screen next to the phone icon, is... well... "hoot" is not what comes to my mind. The sad part is he was a computer programmer in the mainframe days, and spends much of his time reading news on his laptop.

Well, remember the really bad beginning, with the talking reptile that dispensed dietary advice? I never understood why eating an "Apple of knowledge" was a bad thing. But according to the book (that is anything but good) this was enough to get kicked out of Paradise. It is a terrible narrative. Punish those that seek knowledge? Bah, bad book.

It hasn't damaged them so far, and the oligarchs have realized that the evangelists are useful idiots, who vote against their own interests, as long as their leaders are on board. And, since they own the media, they can frame the narrative.

Mother Mary: hope you live to 80...apparently you made it out of your teens, so good luck with that! [Twitter Retort]

thought I was 18 until I die/hope I die before I get old/etc.

But, trust me, when it catches up to you, you're there in spite of intentions. Still the same person, but gray/balding. Shoot me!

But wasn't that the idea? Jesus was sent to die for our sins, supposedly.

I sometimes wish I knew a way to yank the financial rug out from under these shitbags, but I fear there'd unintended consequences that would just make things worse for people who are already hurting.

Job's wife didn't die. She told him to curse God so he could die and be released from his suffering.

Watched Chappaquiddick last night and what a clusterfuck that was. Call the cops, Ted. Just call the cops.

"Internal emails reveal Rauner's office was paranoid that administration officials could be held legally accountable if they didn't act quickly"

I know this is gonna sound crazy, but just hear me out: If you're worried about being held accountable for not acting quickly, maybe at least consider, I dunno, acting quickly?
