There's one vicious word and others used uniformly by old ladies across this nation and I imagine is understood in that way by Black people who relegate many things to the Idon'tcare pile in the course of the day.
While I agree, I must point out that qualified immunity appliies only to civil suits for damages What we need is for murderers to be criminally prosecuted (and convicted and sentenced and the sentences carried out) and ending qualified immunity will not accomplish that.
but since a DA position is the 1st rung on the political ladder, they dare not cross that thin blue line. Self-interest above all things, is the Ammurican Way.
The Lonoke County Sheriff released a statement where he says there is body cam footage and it has been turned over to the Arkansas State Police who are now handling the investigation. Also he said that he was “committed to transparency” and pledged to support release of whatever body camera footage there is from the incident, when “the law and the State Police investigation allow it.“Don't hold your breath.
Not sure why this one made the news. Probably because there were protests - which seems to be the only way the media covers any police killings at all.
Fun fact: 99.5% of police killings are not prosecuted. The police kill more white people than any other race.
Not discounting the implications of disproportionate impact on minority communities, but the idea white victims of police violence can expect to see justice is objectively absurd.
I once looked at an airplane in Arkansas - the pilot showing it literally rolled a wheelie down the entire taxiway hooting "Heeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaw!" at the top of his lungs.
That is the most poignant thing-- not the MOST poignant thing but it makes this guy unforgettable and-- he was picking up the anti-freeze. Sinister kid-- right everybody?
And left a white witness.
That would seem like a slam dunk if the cops were interested in playing ball.
Perfect again, SER.

You didn’t say people of color. You said colored people. You need to keep up.
Don't discount the corrective power of personal financial culpability
Over half the people killed by police are white.
