I was a student teacher in Wyoming during the early 1990s. One of my supervisors told me that I was a mandatory reporter. He explained what a mandatory reporter was and what their responsibilities were.

I was told that if I suspected sexual and/ or physical abuse, I had to report it no matter what. If a student came to me to complain of physical or sexual abuse, I had to report it.

And simply reporting it to a principal did not relieve my of my responsibilities if the principal failed to act.

But, I will give Bre this, I was told that the state of Wyoming would not protect me from disciplinary actions if I angered the principal by fulfilling my duties as a mandatory reporter.

So it was the 1990s is not an excuse. And the fact that Jordan couldn’t be bothered to accompany one of his wrestlers show that he is a piece of shit.

The Republicans attacked him throughout the campaign on that issue, dismissing claims that it was twenty years earlier when he'd been a college student by asserting that it went to the character of the person and whether or not they possessed the proper character to be President.

I don't recall that it was ever even raised as an argument.

She has no knowledge of the entire Recovery Movement? A billion dollar industry spun off from AA, Alanon, and Adult Children of Alcoholics, reclaiming the inner child lost to incest. These are roots of the self-esteem movement, daily affirmations, vision quests, crystal healings all those excesses, have their beginnings in 1980s recovery groups that were held all over cities, made of people in various stages of disintegration. We weren't shy about this. Lydia Lunch was touring regularly then. My own group, facilitated by two shrinks was called PAST for People Against Staying Traumatized. Spoken word and personal zines were exploring this material, self help and psychological books flew off the shelves. Judith Herman's Trauma and Recovery is still hailed as one of the most important texts since Freud and, unlike him, is still taught in universities. And there were naysayers. So many conservative and academic voices claiming our memories were faulty, or we had no claim on our history, to get on with the present and let go of the past. She missed all this, the way the young will. I'm here to say I did something with my life.

It did! I saw it flying overhead on my way home from work. We got some local news coverage too.

Did that happen? How'd it shake out?

We had a teacher when I was in 4th grade who was busted & imprisoned for this in 1958. So, no. It has never been "chill". And was she really on a radio show with a guy named Buck Sexton? That cannot be real.
