I know this sounds bitter and we’re all tired of “rigged” elections, however I do believe this one WAS tampered with. Take for example all the down ballot voting especially in swing states: an exceptionally high amount of votes for Trump had down ballot votes vote democrats (senate, house, other positions). Even republicans have questioned these. Also in the five swing states, there were actual bomb threats to voting places in democratic strongholds .- mine in West Chester,Pa had to evacuate the building for over an hour! Why wasn’t this checked out and talked about?? The one time we needed manual recounts to our election and it was never done. Kamala accepted defeat gracefully when she should’ve asked for recounts in those states.
Trump will die but the damage is done. I see no bright side to this. Is it people paying off people that has caused this mess? I don’t understand why this mess of a “human being” wasn’t stopped by our good people that we trusted to protect us. Did the nit wit outsmart them? What happened here that evil was allowed to overtake this country. Why did the constitution fail?
…it didn’t happen overnight and for people who paid attention would never be a surprise, when corruption and propaganda enters politics ALL BETS ARE OFF and for a politically impaired nation like us it sealed the deal, religion played a MAJOR ROLE in it which is taking over our country and christian NAZIS have support in ALL 50 STATES, trump used religion as a cover to get what he wanted and religious NAZI used him as a cover to get to power, i could not possibly say i didn’t see it coming - I FUCKING DID and screaming bloody hell in my every comment, but only got blocked by stupid democrats gloating about “Kamala’s poll numbers”…
…you always will find an excuse for it to happen without recognizing the real problem which was WAY MORE profound then stupid americans could comprehend, so there you fucking have it, as for those twisted and brainless morons who thought they are craving a big strong guy to make their lives better for them - they are up for the surprise when they find out that “big strong guy” they elected is NOT GIVE A FUCK about ANYONE when he’s a dictator and already have what he was going for, REGIME NEVER CARES about people who elected them either, but it’s for them to find out, i know what regime is and what it does from MY OWN EXPERIENCE, and it’s not fucking pretty
…two party system is only one step to autocracy - FACT and FASCISM ids not an ideology, it’s the way to TAKE and HOLD POWER
Slowly I turned. And step by step, inch by inch I have climbed out of my funk. Pacing and engagement have been my trick.
Pacing... don't allow myself to be buried by the dread of ALL the bad things they want to do. THAT is overwhelming. Stand up, square off and get ready for each fight WHEN it actually comes. Don't preemptively cede ANYTHING to those assholes, including our willingness to oppose them. We can learn that from the Italians and Germans of the 1920s and 1930s.
Engagement... get active NOW... politically, for community, for other people... put that energy that is trying to drag me down into doing good. Now. The fights against those assholes will come, but for now get rejuvenated by doing the good work that still needs to be done. There is good in this world, and it's worth fighting for.
I had to take a break for 2 months. I wasn't really ready for snark and I needed to regroup on my own with a few select people from meatspace, mostly church friends and family. I'm still not sure I'm ready, but you all got me through the first 4 and with trans folks being the punching-bag du jour when all else fails, I figure She Who Is My Partner and I are in for a rough ride. I'll probably have to deal with having a passport with an incorrect gender and my (also trans) doctor have to get creative about prescribing my meds again like he did 20 years ago, but I know that most of the folks around me really are decent and my employer, bless them, aren't pre-emptively bending the knee on things like diversity and inclusion as everyone from the CEO down has made clear. It helps to work for the Big Money Boyz sometimes. They've got enough money to tell a fake billionaire to go jump in a lake.
What's going to get me upset for a very long time is the people who didn't show up. 8 million people who voted for Biden and not for Harris. The same thing happened to Clinton in 2016; it wasn't that more GOP showed up, it's that people jumped ship on the Dems. I can speculate that it's misogyny, I can speculate that it was those vile "they/them" ads that ran endlessly in my state for a month, but I'll never know why people couldn't be bothered to show up and make a choice and now I have to live with their inaction. But we're stronger together, and I hope, despite that I have had to pause contributing financially (bug-out fund, sorry), that I'll still feel in good company here.
What this election forces me to confront is that my values—fairness, justice, inclusion, and the equality of all human beings before God and the law—are not values that most Americans share. This is a sick, corrupt and unsustainable society. It may take a calamity to cure it. Happy New Year!
Until we stop treating Trump as the disease, and start treating him as just the most visible symptom of the disease, we're not going to get anywhere. The disease is pervasive and the disease is resilient. It's in our population, our media, our politics, and yes, in the foundation of our constitutional order. The disease is our desire for simple solutions to very complex challenges. We don't want to do the work even to understand the problems, let alone to solve them. We want to be told that "THEY are the problem" and "I alone can fix it."
Fuck Trump. He's a vulgar orange conman whose only real ability is to find and exploit the weaknesses in America to benefit himself. Let's start looking at everything else, because that is where we can start fixing things, if we really want to.
I am going to toot my own horn because dammit, I have been closely following politics in flyover country for at least 40 years. Also, I once worked for Bob Dole!!! Anyway, I got a bad feeling about a month before the election. Since I have a yahoo e-mail account I could freely partake in "Yahoo Voices", which allows people to comment on yahoo articles. And, right before the election, I kept seeing arguments for electing Trump that apparently the DEMS were not directly addressing. And, the arguments were simple and effective (but not completely true) > 1. The economy was great under Trump, 2. No new wars were started under Trump, 3. Illegal immigrants were killing Americans and taking American jobs. Meanwhile, Kamala was introducing great new policy options, but she did not manage to tell Americans that prices NEVER go down, Biden did not "start wars", and immigrants pick our food and clean our hotels and if we deport them, we will suffer at least a recession.
As someone on another page pointed out, post Covid inflation hit EVERY country, and some 80% of incumbents around the world were voted out of office -- so this wasn't a referendum on the Democrats, so much as it was a reaction to inflation, at least to SOME degree.

Keep fighting and keep writing! Imagine if we did not have truthful resistance!
I've been dreading 2025 since the election.
I'm still dreading the disasters to come -- but an undertone of, "Bring it, bitches!" is definitely filtering in there.
"we all saw with our eyes, when we realized our truly terrific president, who never got no respect, really was ailing."
`
To be fair, President Biden either had Covid or was at the tail end of recovering from Covid during the admittedly disastrous debate.
I suppose it's possible that Trump used the same methods Putin does to get 88% of the vote.

This made me cry. And be angry. And cry some more.
Such class such decency is Elizabeth Warren making her cry …priceless!

"The economy was great under Trump"
"prices NEVER go down"

Those who voted for Trump will get a tutorial from reality.
We have to go on living, no matter how many skies have fallen...
I did the math wrong.
It's been 33 years.
Don't worry about it. We were told there would be no math.
