My daughter works for the mouse. That $15 is a myth. She lives with her grandmother, and drives a hour, one way, to go to work.

Pretty much, yes.

On that we certainly agree. Just because you evaluate the market and make a business decision that a certain type of movie will be profitable, doesn’t make you a good company.

The puritan work ethic is strong...I have to remind my staff that it is in fact no more legal for them to volunteer their time than it is for me to require them to work for free. One of those little civil service protections.

Yeah, I don't know the details with Walt but he definitely did it secretly so no one knew it was him buying up the land to build Mouse Kingdom. I'll read up on those railroad scams (which I am sure were awful) one of these days in my spare time.

Reminds me of a comment I read at Eschaton in late 2008, after Obama won. People were discussing whom he should place in his Cabinet.

Someone (not me! I swear!) said, "Name Hillary Clinton as Attorney General, and give her one directive: Republican blood makes the grass grow."

Went to Disneyland shortly after it opened, mid '50's. It seemed fun, but as a kid growing up in rural Oregon, anything outside of that was fun. I've never understood the adult fascination with going there. People from Oregon still make that pilgrimage like it's their trip of a lifetime, and it probably is if you're from Oregon.
