I totally relate to the gym digression. At the end of my senior year of HS, I was slightly shy of the credits needed to graduate, solely because my year-long boycott of P.E. courses had earned me an F in each of those requisite classes, for all three quarters of that school year.
We are living in Billionaire Utopia. GOP and their billionaire donor loons and unrestrained Corpos and deranged Christians created this mess. And now they are being torn apart by the Golems they created. Karma is a beech.
By god I believe if Nixon had been inaugurated president in 1961 there is no Southeast Asia war—he, rather like LBJ, was a red-baiting cynic pumping boilerplate and no true believer like the Kennedys. Perhaps Poor Dick “goes to China” a decade earlier in 1964!
Step 1: get born at the right time, into a world your parents flattened so there was little/no competition Step 2: spend your existence benefitting from the accident/randomness of your gender/geography/generation while claiming your success was your ownStep 3: deny all attempts by others to level the playing field in the slightest, twisting the meanings of 'community' and 'society' which you benefited from into epithetsStep 4: profit till you perish, after ensuring the tax rules mean you can pass it on to your progeny only
And business plans that are predicated on the govt supplying the workers with health care and food stamps to subsidize their inadequate pay should not be viable business plans. If you can't run a business with workers making a living wage, then it's not a successful business. And huge corporations that squeeze their workers to inflate profits (looking at your Walmart) are a huge liability for taxpayers. I'm starting to think the stock market isn't the best measure of a good economy....
And not only that, but St. Paul was also talking about how to run a church, not a country.
But they are, apparently, cousins.

Got my GED that summer. Fuck P.E.
Excellent article, thanks Robin!
If hard work were all it took to succeed, farm workers would be millionaires.
And roofers.
And the roustabouts who unpack and stock our grocery stores. I love one of them. And garbage men.
Now we have all these folks homeless, how will we stop covid? Will be just like the Black Death - piles of dead bodies being burned in the streets.

Or do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I'll be satisfied with evicting one family on January 20, 2021.
People still say that, but they often don't do it. They prefer instant gratification for a minimum of effort.
