I think I’m gonna have an anxiety attack after reading that.

Even Ebeneezer Scrooge would find these cuts a little aggressive.

I don't think poor MAGA will realize anything other that to double down on their current hate targets. The harder it gets on them, the harder they will be on their chosen targets. They don't connect the dots.

And the Republican Party wouldn't have it any other way.

An observation about the Child Tax Credit and the "SSN CTC" reference in the GOP hit list -- the CTC requires the child to have a Social Security number valid for employment. If the child instead has another type of taxpayer identification number (e.g., a Social Security number marked “Not Valid for Employment”), the taxpayer may be able to claim the Credit for Other Dependents for that child. (Instructions for Schedule 8812, pg. 1 (2024)). The GOP hit list may be targeting the Credit for Other Dependents in this situation. Of course, one can't discount the notion that whoever typed up the list got this particular item wrong.

I'd like to see a daily "price of eggs" meme starting on 1/20/25, an "eggometer." Katie Porter would have been the obvious Congressperson to do that. Somebody now in Congress needs to take up the challenge. Somebody who can use the meme to get daily news coverage attention.

Ta, Robyn. May the incoming maladministration be so incompetent that none of this comes to pass. Should it all happen, the patients at the FQHC where I serve an aging population of HIV positive adults, will all suffer, and some will die.

How comes the Fiscal Conservative types always increase massive debts? And the Social Conservative types always are the pedos?

New Castle, Pennsylvania: "The single mother and her 17-year-old son live in an apartment that is so small she sleeps in the dining room. They receive $1,200 each month in food stamps and Social Security benefits but still come up short. Mosura said she often finds herself deciding between buying milk or toilet paper.

It was all that penny-pinching that drove the part-time tax consultant to abandon the Democratic Party this fall and vote for Donald Trump.

“He is more attuned to the needs of everyone instead of just the rich,” Mosura, 55, said on a recent afternoon. “I think he knows it’s the poor people that got him elected, so I think Trump is going to do more to help us.”

I don't mean to sound unfeeling about poor Lori Mosura but HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The only question is how Lori will manage to blame the Democrats when her benefits are slashed. You can't fix dumber than fuck.

I am sad for her, but how did the Dems fail in messaging to people like her, and how did the rethuglicans get people like her to buy their bullshit? SMH.

Dorothea is a Democrat's avatar

First, I don't believe she ever voted Democrat despite what she said. Second, she is an idiot who thinks her benefits will keep coming no matter who is in charge because they always have in the past. Third, she voted for trump to meet an even baser need, the desire to kick others, immigrants, when they're down. Always punch down.

I am old enough to remember life before medicaid and medicare. As a child, my father's grandmother lived in my great aunt's dining room in a hospital bed.

What the people of this country vote for, they get. Even if they didn't know what they were *really* voting for.

"low-income Trump voters can take heart in knowing that they really stuck it to trans people, immigrants, and the concept of “woke” and definitely were not tricked into frothing at the mouth over these things in order to ensure they’d vote for people who would cut all of the programs they rely on in order to fund tax cuts for people too rich to even feel the impact of whatever small amount of taxes they won’t be paying anymore"

BRB...screaming at that poor cloud again...

"While one House Republican said it was more of a menu of things they could cut than a definitive list of things they want to cut"

And that's better because...?

A great meme I saw today: "The Gulf of the Least Educated Americans."

Which tracks, with Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Florida all bounding the gulf.

Thanks for this rundown of the further rundown of the middle class. Wish to God relatives and friends who voted Red could see their way clear to walk for two hours in the shoes of a single mother trying to figure out food, transportation, medical care, prescriptions, school lunches, and revolving work schedules for the one or two minimum wage jobs she’s holding down in the midst of being dissed and trying to find decent childcare. We need to create “flourish envy” of other nations wherein the happiness and health of the people are more important than the GDP and the protection of billionaires. Good grief it is stunning the greed among the working poor stabbing each other in the back while billionaires might as well be taking a blowtorch to their neighborhoods. Meanwhile we’re all pulling the specks from each other’s eyes while the billionaires pick our pockets and trash our neighborhoods, schools, any hope of upward mobility. We hold each other down for them. Help.

The only way I see out of this horrid mess is to unite the 99% against the 1%, they'd collapse within weeks.

Religion's unholy alliance with fascy oligarchs. Does this happen anywhere else?

paxpax's avatar

All I can see - if and when all of this is enforced - is an increase in death rate - disease / desperation suicides. The oligarchs don't give one fuck. All we've got is each other.
