From the Nice Things Bureau:

1. The Penguins of Madagascar movie is worth your time. I still laugh at a lot of it, though I don't watch it every holiday season or anything.

2. If you need a penguins double feature, pair it with Surf's Up, another animated penguin feature!

3. I am listening to The Pan American Nutcracker Suite by Joe McCarthy's New York Afro Bop Alliance Big Band. Here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AIsvZUGG84

Rather good!

"It's seven o'clock, and time for the penguin on top of your television set to explode."

>BOOM<

"How did he know that?"

"It was an inspired guess. And now . . . "

fair_n_hite_451's avatar

Sorry. Seven o'clock is time to rock. There is nothing else valid at that time. Except perhaps getting a belly full of beer.

"Intercourse the penguin!"

I absolutely wish the Rev. Barber the best, but I can't but wonder what's going on with that filing. For example, "37. Rev. Barber engaged in protected activity when he requested that AMC to allow him to bring in his chair because his is disable."

I call b.s. on the Fodor’s tab. With what it takes to get on a plane these days, the thought that anyone would make it to their assigned seat, find someone sitting in it, and meekly accept the situation without going full-throttle crazy is unbelievable.

LOVE the attempt to *dignify* or *legitimize* asswipe MAGAturds' behavior in STEALING SEATS paid for by others by coining a bullshit Newspeak shittism like 'seat squatting'!!!!!

I just got a warning from the mods at Daily Kos, chiding me for my use of the word "MAGAt." Apparently, it "dehumanizes" the pig-ignorant, greedy, racist, inbred, scum that voted for Trump.

This is why liberals are useless for fighting fascism. Too squeamish!

fair_n_hite_451's avatar

Next time go with "Maga ..... T"

I just go with "MAGA terrorist". No dehumanizing there. Pretty sure most terrorists are humans.

TRIGGER WARNING: SA - Beloved Editrix, please, please tell the story of Gisele Pelicot! She thought she was living an idyllic retirement with the love of her life, when in reality, he was drugging her, raping her and inviting at least 50 men to rape her as well. Everything was videotaped. She refused anonymity during the trial, sat through months of testimony and the airing of the video in court proving to everyone that she did not consent.

At the beginning of the trial, she would arrive in court, wearing sunglasses, shoulders stooped.

Women from all over France gathered outside the courthouse every day in support, and by the end of the trial, she was standing tall and clear-eyed, thanking her supporters and celebrating the verdict. She is an absolute warrior, reversing the shame onto her attackers. Women are demanding change to French law which does not consider consent when determining sexual assault. Men are looking inward because the attackers were ordinary people like them. It has been revolutionary. There is so much more and her husband was truly evil.

She is an inspiration to all of us. Everyone needs to know her story.

CC's avatar

I'm a SA survivor, & I cried l when I heard that her ex-husband was found guilty & sentenced, & that every single one of the 50 men they could identify were also found guilty.

I really f-ing hope that none of the charges for the 50 men are overturned on appeal. Some of these men literally said in court that they didn't intend to rape her, and that their intentions should count for more than the obvious lack of her consent. TBH, that almost made my head explode when I read it

because according to that logic, you can rape someone as long as you aren't intending for the act to be considered rape by the victim, regardless of consent. And that is absolute f-ing bullshit & I'm glad the court did not give that argument any weight.

Gisele Pelicot is a remarkably brave woman & a goddamn hero. She deserves to live the rest of her life in peace & comfort, with the knowledge that the men who violated her were punished for their crimes.

M-X's avatar

PLEASE lead with the headline above: TRIGGER WARNING: SA

And it's a lot for many of us to read. A LOT. But I've kept somewhat aware of the trial. As much as I can handle. Yes, she's become the heroine of her nation, with good reason.

a. diderot's avatar

Done! My apologies, I will be more sensitive to this in the future. I would never want to add more pain to anyone who has survived sexual assault.

I wish you the best on your journey.

"Fuck Katie Porter’s ex-boyfriend, except don’t."

Grrr....Katie Porter might have won a Senate seat if erstwhile INPEACH!ment hero shifty Adam Schiff hadn't donated money to Steve Garvey's campaign, for heaven's sake

tempusfugit's avatar

Katie Porter is no heroine. She conceded a seat to Rethugs to do her vanity run for Senate (which campaign she botched in every way) when she knew she couldn't win.

I've got lots more dirt on her. Princess Whiteboard needs some serious cleaning.

WannabeWonk's avatar

Ok, here are my thoughts on Katie Porter. She and Jasmine Crockett are two of my loves, but I'm not worthy to pick up the crumbs beneath their feet. IMNSHO, Ms Porter is more suited for the House. The House is where you school CEOs, pencil neck geeks, repugnicans, and the public with a white board. She excels at that and I wish she was still there doing that. The Senate is slower and more deliberate and it seems like that is where Schiff belongs, and I'm glad he will be there.

I'm far away from California so my opinion doesn't count, but there it is.

If you bitch about your opponent raising money, and they've given money to your prior campaigns, you're gonna lose.

Hi Rebecca... just an FYI... not sure if you saw in that Xtra* article you linked to that it bashes Substack as "nazified" and "pseudo-news"... interesting that you blasted this kind of stuff just YESTERDAY... kinda provides a microcosm of the purity problem on the internet... can't really get away from it... I understand why you want to platform this article, but ironic that the writer of the article you like seems to want to de-platform you and Substack as "pseudo news.
