A Few Little Racial Slurs Won't Knock The Crown Off Miss Teen USA's Head
There she is, Miss Teen USA! There she is, your ideaaaaalllll ! Unless your "ideal" involves not being particularly predisposed to using racial slurs on the Twitter machine. If that is the case, 18-year-old Karlie Hay may not be your ideal after all. Alas!
The new Miss Teen USA has a rather "colorful" Twitter past, if you know what we mean! One involving many racial slurs! And she was not quite clever enough to remember to delete that past before signing up to be Miss Teen USA. Oops!
Oh golly what a charmer!
The former Miss Teen Texas (FEIGN SURPRISE, WE ARE NOT BIGOTS HERE) has apologized for her tweets since they were discovered, as this is pretty much how things work now, and now she gets to keep her crown -- although the pageant says her old tweets do not reflect the values of the Miss Teen USA pageant. Which we imagine have something to do with baton twirling and putting Vaseline on your teeth.

The Miss USA Pageant was recently acquired by WME/IMG after the company cut a deal with the pageant's co-owner Donald Trump last year, Variety reports.
In an Instagram post , Hay implied that the racist language was a result of her "personal struggles."
"I admit that I have used language publicly in the past which I am not proud of and that there is no excuse for," Hay captioned a group photo of herself with the other Miss Teen USA contestants.
"Through hard work, education and thanks in large part to the sisterhood that I have come to know through pageants, I am proud to say that I am today a better person."
Granted, the tweets are three years old and those of us who didn't have to live our teen years with social media are eternally grateful for the fact that no one will ever know how horrendously embarrassing they were, or see any pictures of us from our days in the Rocky Horror shadow cast -- but it is hard to imagine what sort of "personal struggles," exactly, lead someone to just go and spout racial epithets on the regular. How is that the well you go to if you are in any way not a terrible person? Wondering for a friend who may or may not be named Mel Gibson!
Instead of "personal struggles," maybe Miss Hay could have taken a cue from Caitlin Upton, Miss Teen South Carolina 2007, and explained that like many U.S. Americans who are unable to find America on a map because they don't personally have a map, like such as, Hay did not have a dictionary which pointed out some words are offensive, and the education over here and in the Iraq and South Africa, and should help educate the racial epithets to build up the future. For our children.

Purely speculating and speculating only, but she sure looks like the young lady selling back-to-school supplies and groceries for HEB on my teevee. If Mr. Butt (Herman E. Butt, the founder) learns of this revelation, the corporation will drop her like a hot cat turd.
