I've only been in AA 29 years and no one has ever told me you could get sober by praying about it. But you never know; it could happen any day.

Good illustration of the randomness of drug laws: in the UK, Canada, Spain and other countries codeine is an OTC medicine (in combination with paracetamol a.k.a.acetaminophen). It's very handy to have a stronger painkiller available like that obvs. The risk of overdose comes from the acetaminophen, but nowadays that's treatable although still dangerous. I looked this up on wikipedia and fell down a bit of a rabbit-hole, it's fascinating stuff! https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

I'd take iceberg lettuce 100/100 times if there was a choice. Romaine is popular with commercial kitchens b/c they take the good part--the leaves--and use that on sandwiches, burgers etc, and take the leftover--the stalk with just a hint of leaf and use that for salads, salad bars, etc. I've had the shitty part of romaine used in wraps I've eaten. I get the whole profit thing, but give me a break...

I remember helping a lady look for an alternative to a muscle relaxer once - she told me that they used to be over-the-counter but have to be prescribed now, and she had had no success getting a prescription. Apparently, she had a chronic condition that would flare up and leave her in need of muscle relaxers.Asthma rescue inhalers used to be available OTC also, but those are gone.Part of the problem with drugs (not the addiction part, although our whacky prison system would prefer you believe otherwise) is that stuff that used to be OTC is disappearing behind the prescription pads. I suspect the profit motive is driving this, as the current US medical system seems to have the attitude "what are a few deaths worth in the pursuit of profit? All they mean to us is an opportunity to market our product."

Iceberg is very nice. It's lettuce with all that water and crunch (if you eat the ribs) and without all of that pesky flavor. It's my second favorite lettuce behind butter lettuce - which I love for both the flavor and the name. And, when it comes to using it in your hamburger for a sauces tarp, it's leaves are just the right size and shape.disclosuer: I have never eaten arugula, although I did once have a salad with mustard green in it - it was surprisingly deliciousl.

The drug delivery idea is cool, but lab strains are probably so altered that they probably couldn't compete with wild type. As part of the microbiome story, though, no doubt they'll be trying to re-isolate wt strains along with other species.

The microbiome link to Crohn's makes sense, but alzheimer's & autism? Not likely, and to establish a link you're talking a multi-tens-of-millions longitudinal study, sequencing people's poop. Even if there is a link it will be decades before we know.

I've been to BIO once, it was fun. It was refreshing to see academia & industry speaking frankly, rather than the closed-room horse trading that goes on at the big academic conferences.

Thanks Carlos!

:-) glad I could be of service!

Thanks Carlos. Excellent story. I'd like to say, as consumer and a person who wants to find ways to eat healthy, that romaine lettuce should be somehow be genetically engineered into extinction. It's literally the worst type of lettuce available on the market.

Don't forget the accompanying "documentary" about someone who detransitioned. Grrr.

I am the kind of parent that, when my daughter drops a dry cracker onto grass, I pick it up and give it back to her. Cause I *ate* grass as a kid and she’s gonna have a good immune system if it kills me!

Thank you. I have endometriosis and I am physically unable to take hormone pills without becoming sick, bleeding, cramp-riddled and insane with depression and rage. I also have run the gamut of pain relief drugs and codeine is literally the *only* thing I can take that doesn’t make me crazy or ill. I have tried and rejected some hard fucking drugs, too. Patches, tramadol, oxy, etc. All of them had unliveable side-effects or gave me chronic migraines. I have a drug regimen that makes my life liveable, it is not an escalating use, and when I fell pregnant this January, I titrated off of it in 3 weeks. I did not crave it. I still don’t. The only time I’m ever tempted is when I have a bad migraine, but even then I just take the dang panadol and soldier on. Hopefully after bubby is born, I’ll have about six months to a year grace from the endo. I’m not optimistic, as it was 4 months with my daughter A. Endo came back worse after her for some reason. I’m in the system for a laparoscopy after birth, probably next year.

TL;DR: I have a painful, incurable disease and the only drug I can take effectively is codeine. I’m not an addict, but my government treats me like one by default.

If it is proven that his purchase of the apartment was made with the proceeds of money laundering then would it be vulnerable to forfeiture?
