I listened to half the podcast live. I'm kind of afraid to listen to the bits I didn't hear, but I also feel like maybe I did hear enough I should have commented at the time? I'm wracking my brain trying to remember what was going on in the podcast and I kind of want to go back and listen to what I missed and relisten to the rest and also kind of want to not ever listen to any of it again.
Anyway, I'm not perfect, but I'm here for you, and I'm willing to hear when I should be better.
I didn't listen to any of it - some things came up that had to be taken care of. After reading Rebecca's post, I won't listen at all, as I sometimes try to listen to some of the podcast.
It's quite funny really, so I bit and argued about it with him for a bit. 95% efficacy rate isn't accurate? Okay how not? So I show the study, 170 people studied, everything is true and accurate... But but but 170 people being studied is "criminally wrong". Okay okay so I laughed at that one.
And then I pointed out that Kens making unsubstantiated claims like vaccinated people were more likely to die in areas versus unvaccinated people. So I looked it up and in 2021, nearly 99% of people who died in the said dates were unvaccinated, thus debunking that claim. Group chat friend provided a CDC chart that showed what percentage of people who were vaccinated/unvaxxed dying from month to month. Not a good comparison and also irrelevant. It was also misleading because it didn't capture actual effectiveness rates of the vax. He also kept saying that the study was done in 2021 and it's 2023 now. I asked him if he even read the article... So I laughed again.
This person seems to think that Paxton has a case, however it's laughable when Pfizer is both manufacturing a vaccine AND advocating for pushing for other preventilative measures like social distancing and masking up. (He's convinced that masking up doesn't do anything but I avoided that since it was irrelevant to the lawsuit)
So I kept asking what else would bring Pfizer down, and it was merely crickets. And then I asked why doesn't he sue the governor, the very dude who literally rolled back all safety precautions on the virus... Crickets...
Usually I refrain from such arguments because there's a massive inability to reason, but I took the bait and crammed it in his face.
Now to be 100% honest, as a Jewish person my reaction in the first few hours was that I wanted them to retaliate no matter what. But that was just an initial lizard brain reaction. That’s what terrorists count on. If I was in charge would I ordered targeted strikes that first day? Maybe. But I would have regretted it and stopped immediately after the first report and would have had to live with that mistake the rest of my life. To still be arguing for a show of indiscriminate force at this point is unacceptable.
It's how we felt on 9/11. Get the bastards! But then when calmer heads prevail, "get the bastards, but make sure it's only the bastards you get, don't just drop bombs anywhere."
What if Israel offered a ceasefire in return for the surrender of the actual perpetrators of October 6 for trial at the Hague? I guess they can't or won't since they voted against the ICC in the first place, but these atrocities are exactly the kind of crimes the ICC was set up to prosecute.
The Palestinians suffer, that is true, but for Hamas to engage in such barbaric acts -much like Russian soldiers in Ukraine, I might add, only shows the depth of depravity of these people. If they had ever hoped to gain an upper hand in negotiations of any kind, they have killed that idea off. Israel will not relent. I am no admirer of the Israeli government, and find it sad that the oppressed have become the oppressor in Palestine. It is an apartheid state as President Jimmy Carter said. As to what's to be done after so many attempts to find a solution, I have no idea. One exception - barbarism should get you wiped off the face of the map.
Though both sides have targeted civilians, which in violation of the Geneva Conventions ... that also applies to non-state actors like Hamas. Two wrongs don't make it right. Even in WWII, the US also targeted civilians of no military value (bombing of Dresden comes to mind.)
'Captors told child hostage everyone had forgotten about her - doctor'
Dr Efrat Harlev, one of the paediatricians caring for the freed hostages at Schneider Children’s Medical Center, has said that what the child hostages experienced in Gaza was unimaginable.
Speaking earlier today in a press conference, she said that 19 of the child hostages treated at the hospital had lost 10-15 percent of their body weight, and that the children were struggling to eat properly again, instead wanting to save the food as they had done when food was scarce in captivity.
Harlev said that a 13-year-old girl she was treating told her: “I actually thought that everyone forgot about me…this is what I've been told by the Hamas kidnappers."
"They told me she said that nobody cares about you anymore. Nobody's looking for you. Nobody wants you back. You can hear the bombs around. All they want to do is kill you and us together,” Harlev said the girl told her.
Speaking about the first moments she met the children, who arrived at the hospital by helicopter, she said: “They looked like shadows of children, not like children. They say almost nothing. Or they whisper.”
A three year old child being treated at the hospital told doctors about a “red man next to her on the tractor”.
Harlev explained that this was the child’s way of trying to explain that the man was covered in blood.
Also it was cowardly to do this as a pre-recorded one to avoid the realtime backlash. We can civilly disagree, but dumping on many of us who disagree as "the oldz" who don't understand the kidz is unfair. I know Biden has eaten shit for forgiving Student Loans and working for Climate Change mitigation. Those two things alone will cost him some swing votes. I hear that things are tough, but when I was in my twenties Unemployment was 7.8% and Interest Rates were 14.6 %!!! Suck it up, Buttercups.
“When (most! not all!) American Jews talk about the war in Israel and Gaza, they make sure to say — and believe — that the suffering of the Palestinian people matters too. The same is not said for us. It hurts desperately.”
Comments off.
A modest proposal?
Let's all post a dick joke or two, and shelve this topic. Tempers are running too hot.
The Burgumentum has run out, and the candidate's dropped out.
Not Bug Durrrman?!

Enough of this! WTF is the next article? This comment thread is becoming too divisive for me.
It's become Political Fight Club in here.
Wait, are we all going to realize we are the same commenter all along?
Sorry for the spoiler!
Yeah, I'm certain simba is disappointed in us at this point
I am currently redoing Cakes STOLLEN recipe to include weed and shrooms.
Ima call them "Freedom Cakes" and frost them BLUE.
Think about that and hit the vape 3x times. Better?
I like the way you think.
It's like you read my mind. JFC. It's nasty. I'm afraid to say anything at all except where Evan? Can't we all just laugh at Rudy Guiliani?
Hey all, how are things? I'm good just checking in as I don't really do that much around here anymore!
Life is good, things are going well.
Anyways I know that it's off topic but I have to share...

Texas AG sues Pfizer, claims its vaccine made people believe it would end the pandemic
One of the dudes posted Paxton's websites release of lawsuit statement against Pfizer, which is Ken's suing since they "misled" the population.

Anyways cool story thank you for reading.
WTF is that piece of shit still in that position? Oh, that's right: Republicants.
Not ideal timing.
Read the room, wait for OT
That's a fair assessment, but sometimes a boil needs to be popped and we may be close here.
I'll post a remedial pic of The Crew. That often calms a few people down.

I wouldn't actually have any criticism of Israel right now, if they were holding Hamas responsible for their crimes and not random Palestinians.
Yup.
That aren't attacking "Hamas" and there are sad instances of collateral damage.
Israel is just killing people and if a member or two of Hamas is in the batch, it was all worthwhile.
Palestinians do not equal Hamas though.
Anymore than anyone here was part of Trump's America from '16-20, yeah.

Right behind you, I was checking if the coast was clear.
I long for the day that humans figure out how to settle their differences without resorting to violence. I'm sure I'll be dead by then.
I'm pretty sure the heat death of the universe will occur before "humans figure out how to settle their differences without resorting to violence."
War doesn't decide who is right. War decides who is left
In this case, since both sides are acting badly, my only response is to quote from Gen. William T. Sherman: "War is hell."
Also, Gen. Smedley Butler: "War is a racket."
Should also quote from Edwin Starr: "War. What is it good for. Absolutely nothing. ... Friend only to the undertaker."
"both sides are acting badly"
But there's no moral equivalence here. Hamas are terrorists. Killing, torturing, and kidnapping non-combatants is the point.
Though both sides have targeted civilians, which in violation of the Geneva Conventions ... that also applies to non-state actors like Hamas. Two wrongs don't make it right. Even in WWII, the US also targeted civilians of no military value (bombing of Dresden comes to mind.)
Reminds what military folks call the hallowed Geneva Conventions, "The Geneva Suggestions"

Yeah. I remember the 80s in Cali with 18%
Yeah...I'm out (on this) - too many bad faith arguments and no-win situations being presented.
