Thank you to Mother Jones for finally pointing out that people who have always been legally present in the US are being arbitrarily and suddenly made illegally present with no opportunity to contest the change. When you have to manufacture "illegals" so that you can deport them, maybe you need to rethink your whole program.

I'm reading that thing about Jared Wise, the insurrectionist now employed as an advisor at DOJ, and it's making me angry all over again about TFG pardoning all those people who attacked the Capitol (Wise's case was ordered dismissed, practically the same thing). What a fucking slap in the face, to the rule of law, to democracy, and of course to everyone who thought Trump was a bad choice for President.
The biggest problem HOA's have is owners not paying their fees. Squabbles between boards and owners over "rules" and silly fines always make the news, deadbeat owners don't.

A whistleblower, a new hire as camp employee, says they are living in a trailer with often lack of water and plumbing (they use a Port a Potty). Whistleblower called the cage situation for inmates "inhumane." I read this in The Bradenton Times; the original report came from a Miami TV station and maybe elsewhere. But the information does seem to be second-sourced. Not surprising that the camp workers would live in a trailer but seems like water and a working toilet would be useful.
That Dr. Taber video on the Neanderthal fat factory is about that, and about much else that makes us human. I just finished watching it and stopped by here to give it my hearty recommendation. It is a full and satisfying meal for both the mind and the heart. Enjoy!
That Berlatsky piece is good, and really gets at what bothered me about Ian Dunt’s essay: men viewing women as prizes for good behavior is endemic to the US, and it is not a way to convince any guy who is actually progressive because they don’t think of women as prizes. Those guys who are sure Democrats are cockblocking them with policy are the ones who insist that they just had to become conservative in their ‘40s. I am SO TIRED of men who subscribe to the tenets of gender essentialism and call themselves liberal or leftist. So tired. Do they honestly believe young women don’t spend a lot of time wanting to get laid? Do they honestly think young men are driven entirely by sex? Berlatsky nails it (pardon): they are increasingly driven by a belief that they must jockey for a place in the hierarchy, because the conservative narrative of scarcity has hit everyone, and because of dreadful unscientific takes on How Men Are and How Women Are. I’m tired of this argument and I’m tired of “Dontcha feel for these poor boys” because we already let boys get away with everything and now I’m supposed to feel bad for them not succeeding in school because gender bias has let them learn to pay no attention to women in authority, to not value learning impulse control, to be fighty with no intervention, etc. I cannot summon up the fucks to give because they took half of my money and three quarters of the credit for anything I ever accomplished while insisting there was no structural sexism.
Noah Berlatsky is correct about the manosphere. They are all about impressing and one-upping each other. Women are one means to that end - another object to show off your status.
