Fond memories of sitting with my son, watching the show and laughing our asses off.

Oddly enough, I didn’t really care much one way or the other either about the show until I saw this video. I think I’d seen the first episode, and found it “meh”. But I discovered the video during COVID, and having a lot of time on my hands got into the show and… it’s an acquired taste, but at least the first 5-7 seasons are a welcome relief from what Marc Maron calls “Thinky Pain”.

Watching the kitten reminded me of this bit from a story I wrote . . . back in 2016? Ye gods.

“Hey,” Jontaveon said suddenly, “anyone got any nip?” His tail swished across the planks, but it stopped and his whiskers dipped in disappointment as the others shook their heads. “Damn, I knew I should’ve hooked up before we left Seathl.”

Bob snorted. “Dude, we’re right by the yiffing ocean, right? Last thing I want to do is have you drown from going swimming with a head full of nip.”

“Dude, I can handle myself – “

“Yeah,” Darius said. “Weren’t you the cat they caught taking a dump in the bushes near Haywood Hall last term, talking about ‘litter boxes’ and shit?” The others all laughed, and Ozzy caused everyone, including Jontaveon, to laugh harder when he sat up and meowed.

“RAWR” LOL. Lookit them paws!

My Rosie was found as an smol kitten alone and injured (her forever wonky eye) in the woods. I’m not convinced she’s entirely domestic house cat; with her black feet and spotted belleh.

That obit about Dolly didn't just "downplay her goodness," it was frankly critical of what the author called her "greed for money" without even mentioning her numerous philanthropic contributions. I was very disappointed that that made it through your editorial process and was published.

What is there to say about the state of country music since 2000, other than it is in a rut and when Randy Travis has to start a cable TV channel because Blue Grass can’t get played on CMT (Or do they now have CMT2, CMT Classic, CMT Boomer, and CMT Drunken Prison Truck Driving Mama Songs, following the Disney ESPN Sports programming model?), Country artists should not be wearing Cowboy hats, because they don’t know what end of cow to feed, and what end of a horse the road apples come out of, or the difference between a git, a shoat, a barrow, and a hog, because they don’t watch the Farm Film Report at 0530 anymore.

Being from East Tennessee, from a one room cabin, with a Daddy who never learned to read, Miss Parton was about as authentic as they come. She couldn’t even listen to the Carter Family on the radio, because she didn’t own a radio! The 11 brothers and sisters just makes Smokey Mountain Christmas starring Dolly Parton more poignant, and I will remember that when I watch it again. Great art, like The Homecoming, it isnt, but it is totally country.

AM radio driving through eastern Kentucky, eastern Tennessee, Western Virginia, and western Virginia is different, (or it used to be, been 10 years now), because it isnt all Sean Hannity, Joe Pags, Rush Limbaugh, and those other city slickers. You hear Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors, between George Jones’s White Lightning and Jeannie Riley’s Cotton Patch, and then the Osborne Brothers play Ruby Are You Mad At Your Man, and then a 10 minute commercial comes on for The General Store, having a sale “Because I gotta do end of the year inventory, I don’t like to, but the gubmint makes me do it, and the more I sell to you, the less I got to count.” You can almost picture the bench outside the store with the loafers passing the time while their women are inside, shopping and gossiping. Checkers is a blood sport. And it is entirely appropriate that Dolly started a Truck Stop and General Store in her home town in the last year of her life, when she was 79 and bald from the chemo (And she had the brass to let a picture of her bald head go out on the internet, and I should have known she had cancer, but I was in denial), and still cheerful as ever, like my great grandma was at the end. She was just an angel, with an earthy and wicked sense of humor (that story she told to the talk show host about “Grandpa” beating her on the chest with a baseball bat, “and he raised up these two lumps on my chest, and they ain’t gone down yet!” and then she pointed at the host and said “Gotcha!” in a voice of triumph, is just so totally, totally country), but not a mean bone in her body.

Everybody loved Dolly, because she loved everybody.

Ta, Rebecca. Ta, Martini. There's a storm coming later today; normal in the Catskills. We're sipping flowery green tea and watching the leaves in the wind. Good day, beloved Wonketteers. We love and appreciate you all and we bless us all with love, health, peace, and grace.

Please, please stay safe. Wear a mask or two, wash your hands, sanitize when you cannot wash and let the sanitizer dry completely, stop touching your face, take Vitamin D, get a booster shot six months after your last (and get kids in your household vaccinated also, too), and stay the fuck away from us or anyone with whom you do not share a roof. Do this because you love yourself, and because we love you, too. Do this in memory of 27 Club member Treg, Holly's heroic pilot friend Tony, and around eight million dead worldwide (maybe including FukuiSanYesOta; he had long COVID and that can lead to cardiac arrest). Do this to honor the nurses and other frontline medical personnel (we love and appreciate you, medicos of Wonkette, including retirees), especially ICU Hera Mrs Land Shark RN. Please, please stay safe. When we vote, we WIN!

Slava Ukraini. 🌻🇺🇦💙💛

Ta, Martini. I did not want a diamond as center stone on my engagement ring, and not just because I was taking a subway to and from The South Bronx when I was working. I chose aquamarine because I love it and we're both Pisces rising. We were researching custom jewelers, but we didn't like any of their designs. I found an estate piece that fit the bill on Etsy; Meccalopolis got that for me. We did go to a custom jeweler to make our platinum wedding bands to match the pattern on the engagement ring. We thought the jeweler would use CAD to make the bands, but having them done by hand did not cost much more, and we love them. I also bought a big Santa Maria aquamarine and had it set in gold for my sweetheart since he already wore a gold chain. I gave it to him and asked him to marry me, just as he'd asked me. No blood diamonds for us! (We don't know the provenance of the tiny diamonds on the engagement ring.)

Has anyone else seen 11 Harrowhouse, with young Candace Bergen, Charles Grodin, and James Mason? It is heist picture, from 11 Harrowhouse, where the London office of DeBeers keeps all the finished diamonds, so that it can control the supply and keep the price high. After the crew steals all the diamonds, they realize that the price would plummet if they fenced them, so Charles gives a big rock to Candy as an engagement gift, and they leave the rest at the bottom of a fountain, to make the water appear extra sparkly.

The point is, why do diamonds cost so much? Now that we have artificial diamonds for industrial drills and polishing surfaces, why don’t diamonds cost the same as zircons? Fact is, DeBeers does control the supply, to keep the price high. Forget the 4C’s. Diamonds are just pretty rocks. Certainly not worth anyone’s life.

From Liz's Law & Chaos, on the Kennedy Center:

"Trustee Mindy Levine made clear at the June board meeting that her priority was honoring Trump, not the Center’s continued success: “We are all presidential appointees. How do we best serve him in a loyal and efficient way?”

“We are talking about the Commander in Chief having a special skill set of building across the world,” agreed Maria Bartiromo. “All the decisions that have been made have been made on merit.”

So, if the government is to be believed: signing a budget bill makes Trump a fundraising genius; the man who emptied the house is the only thing standing between the Kennedy Center and a wrecking ball; and a board stacked with his own lackeys is “saving” the institution by ensuring that artists and residents of the District will avoid it like the plague.

That’s a pretty strange definition of “merit.”"

the convicted felon has a "skill" of convincing building owners to plop his name on the side of a building and pay handso ....hand ... pay out the ass for the privilege. So if you want the Kennedy Center to pay out the ass so the convicted felon can wipe his orange ass on the side of the Kennedy center it will not go well for you. In the end, everyone will hate you. ettd.

I got my two shingles shot a couple years ago the first one just a little sore. But the second one I was sick for like a week and a half, still way worth it.

Save yourself a very painful few weeks and get the vaccine

As the commercial says “shingles, don’t care!”

The two part shingles vaccine kicked my ass, but only for a day each. I was carpooling to work at the time and didn't expect it. I had to spend the whole day at work feeling like crap. The second shot I preemptively called in sick. Absolutely worth it though.
