Nice try, but no cigar, lovers of science in the Pelican State. For the fourth time since the Doublespeaky "Louisiana Science Education Act" (LSEA) was passed in 2008, an attempt to repeal the law has beenshot down, by a 3-1 vote in the Senate Education Committee. This means that teachers in the Great State of Jindalia can continue to teach "critical thinking" by supplementing the state's official science curriculum with additional materials of their choice, which (nudge-nudge) may "help students understand, analyze, critique, and review scientific theories in an objective manner." In other words, they can "teach the controversy" and drag in materials that say evolution and climate change are just crazy ideas that shouldn't be taken seriously. What a nice victory for academic freedom, which should always include the freedom to not teach facts.
Speaking as a bona-fide rural (actually, wilderness) person... Marx didn't know the half of it. His characterization of the country life was entirely too generous.
I once had a classmate named John Doe. His father, Roger, was better known by his nickname, "Play" and his mother, Carol, also had a nickname, "Dosey."
They need to TEACH critical thinking skills and science-method for several grades before this is introduced. Without getting into either "theory". Then, go for it.
The wingnuts have legislated the teaching of true literature, history and political science out of existence. Art and music are mostly gone from public K-12 schools, too. Now they want to destroy real science. In 10 years the US will no longer qualify as a "civilization."
Let's not even get into the obvious, glaring flaws in designing the daddy-bags to flop around outside the body cavity because, boo-hoo, inside was just too hot to keep sperm alive. (Also, there is itching.)
I read an article on how America's middle class isn't at the same level as Canada's and several other nations. This 'unreality-based' education isn't going to help matters.
I suspect at some point if the derp does not let up we will have to move to some sort of federated city state system in the near future. I'm already close to giving up on this country and we can't continue to have these idiots have any say in our politics.
Even those heathen science books are more consistent! Lies from the pits of Hell, but consistent.
What a sad place science has gotten to, where people are convinced they need non-science to assess science.
No, I hadn't, but now you mention it, I must add this to my list of talking points to use with braying wingtards.
There will be wailing and Ganeshing of teeth.

"It's not science; it's Louisiana Science[tm]!"
The ad copy practically writes itself.

Just sayin'.
