Yes, the ACLU has represented the KKK, Nazis, and NAMBLA. It has also represented the NAACP, draft resisters, labor unions, John Scopes, and Allen Ginsberg. That's what the ACLU is — and always has been.
this is a criticism I never quite was able to wrap my head around. sure, I'm not doing cartwheels when the ACLU is defending bigots, but free speech is with few exceptions universal, and you don't get to cherry pick.
same basic principle that everybody has a right to an attorney. you don't get to pick and choose who "deserves" legal counsel.
The Vulture Capitalists have set about destroying it over the last few years, but oddly enough the Salt Lake Tribune used to be an excellent daily newspaper with a strong liberal lean. Their Editorial Cartoonist, Pat Bagley, was one of my favorites.
