A small kid with a big family.

This reminds me of when we first brought our (lab-sized) cat-loving dog to meet my parents' kitten. Daisy the kitten had NEVER seen another creature in HER home and was at full goofy kitten phase. She would sneak up behind the dog, tag her and then run away, while the dog in her infinite patience would just half open her eyes. Daisy would get up on a chair so she could drop down on the dog and then leap away, while dog would groan a bit and look at her for a second before going back to sleep.

Big dogs can be so patient with the little freaks in their orbits!

I think one of the trio drops on his back to demonstrate to the pup "we're not sad and worried, not at all!"

WokeGrandma's avatar

Cynic that I am, I'm pretty sure the giant adult dog was saying "I'm not gonna hurt you, little fella."

Always Be Ithacating's avatar

I'm sure you're right, but I've often been impressed that size doesn't seem to enter into dogs' estimations of each other at all.

WokeGrandma's avatar

Good point! Maybe the big dogs are just sayin' "Have some fun with us!"

A coworker’s wife grew up on a farm and had a St. Bernard who liked to carry around baby chicks. It would come up to her making little cheeping sounds so she would fish around in its mouth to retrieve the poor half-drown chick.

Wait, there's a gold fish in there too!

TY for doggies!

I have to go out later this morning, which is always an ordeal, to see a doctor...and I have to go in a chair, because it's too far to walk. I am not feeling perky. So, you have giving me a little gif to play in my head all morning, and I will imagine playing with the big floofs, and the puppy, and ignore the frustration and ignominy of the goddam chair.

WokeGrandma's avatar

Ride in that chair proudly and remember the adage "Getting old is not for the faint of heart." Attributed to both Mae West and Meryl Streep -- women of wisdom!

Safe and happy travels today Ellie.

What a great way to start the day...

My roommate in college and I adopted a Saint Bernard named Babe and she was the most affectionate and even tempered animal ever. She got along with our Siamese cat and other dogs very well, but boy when she shook her head from time to time copious amounts of spittle would fly. I graduated and left her with my old roomie because he was a year behind me and I was going into a new job and grad school in the city.

Shocktreatment's avatar

I've been fortunate enough to have had several 100 pound+ dogs, among 'em Wolf Hounds, an English Mastiff, a giant Malamute...

Not a one was as human-centric and considerate as the St Bernard...

Menotsure's avatar

Babe was a real sweetie.

My friend Big was actually concerned, lot of empathy.

He arrived at Chez Shock because he grew, and a friend's lease forbade dogs over 100 lbs...

How is he going to get squeaky boats to march down Pennsylvania Avenue?

If Trump was upset by the Army's marching wait until he sees the Navy march. It might trigger that stroke that finally takes him out.

Trump is NOT gonna like China's Victory Day Parade this Wednesday, 9/3. Gonna be one hell of a spectacle.

Xi, Putin, and Kim will be there. But One No Trump! LOLz.

I would call it must see TV, like that Chinese ballet company, Shen Yun.

No, I'm not a sympathizer, only in it for the entertainment.

If the nukes start flying, it won't matter anyway.

FWIW, 'Trix, I'd keep an eye on Chris Kluwe. He seems to have it figured out. The 72nd Assembly District is evenly split between Republicans and Democrats, but Dems seriously underperform there. Kluwe's assertion that they're disinterested and not turning out seems pretty solid. And he's just the guy to change that. Add in what he'll pick up for being a sports ball star and male (Assembly general-election races in the 72nd have been all-female since 2018; it'll add interest, especially there) and he just might be able to pull it off.

Happy Labor Day!:

[NYT]: "President Trump expanded his wide-reaching effort to strip union protections from federal employees on Thursday, signing an executive order that commanded roughly half a dozen government agencies to end their collective bargaining agreements with unions representing their employees. Those agencies included NASA; the National Weather Service and the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service; the United States Agency for Global Media, which manages federally funded news agencies like Voice of America; the Office of the Commissioner for Patents; and units of the Bureau of Reclamation that operate 53 hydroelectric power plants across the country."

Yeah. Whatever reasons Muriel Bowser has for her craven collaboration with Pussy Ass Bitch, they are BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD ones. I lean toward a) the stadium, which will happen the Twelfth of Never right after the team becomes 'the Redskins' again and b) lotsa personal dirt/kompromat on her.

Seeking justice in DC

Re: Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to DC. This article from the Lowell, MA, Sun via the Boston Herald is about a mother who thinks, somehow, the National Guard will be able to bring her son’s murder to justice.

A very sad story, I feel empathy for the mother, but the idea that the NG will be paying any attention to her son’s murder is even sadder.
