For some. You'd be surprised though, how many women in red states vote red because they just don't know shit or have a really twisted perception of Democrats. Don't underestimate the power of generations of straight up lies.

This is the world I come from, so I know a lot about it's depressing truths. Chauvanists rarely respect the women they claim to love, and they rarely love them well. The women closest to them often get it the worst, because those are the ones they have the most power over.

I think we in Canada are particularly bad about this. There is actually a serious discussion happening about whether to bulldoze 24 Sussex Drive, the home of many Prime Ministers. It would be cheaper, they say, to start again. Even in historic Ottawa, there is a cavalier attitude about anything old. Yet these same people will google and gush over Venice or London. How do they think sites become historic?

It is sheer cruelty to make a woman marry her rapist. Laws like these will make women less likely to report a rape.

I'm personally still bugging out at the sheer entitlement of "don't feel like waiting for the open thread".

In the case I linked to, she didn't have a choice about that, either. Over a dozen of his friends helped abduct her and IIRC many of them were there in the same house where she was held for a week. Everyone knew, and that's why they were trying to force her to marry him. But she wouldn't.

Well, it's the women's fault for not having one of those magical vaginas that can automatically detect and expel rapist sperm.

Those rapists have to get their future victims somewhere, don't they? Alabama has decided they can grow their own.
